Well,
Let's start with yesterday i had my wife drop in to the shop that i thought was my next new best friend in order to pick up some more flat grey paint and i had her take my kit with her the Camaro so that he could order me a new body.
Well first she spends 40 mins sitting waiting for him to assist her as he was on the phone. Then when he finally gets off the phone and starts talking to her he trys and sells her everything under the sun.. She said she was only there for two reasons and she really had to go she had been waiting long enough.
So she gave him the paint model code and he gave it to her and ran it up at $4.99 when it clearly has a sticker on it for $2.49 so she mentioned it and he told her that the $2.49 was a xmas special well she did not argue and paid the $4.99, When $2.49 is his regular freaking price!!!!!
So then she showed him the body, and the first thing that came out of his mouth was "What kind of a moron does that to a body", Her repl was "The moron who spent good hard earned money in your shop and if i have anything to do with it he will never do it again!" and she walked out and came home upset and told me. Leaving the paint at the store.
Today i went to the store on my lunch break with the recipt to tell him what happened and to pick up my paint. Well when i walked in he was all happy go lucky like he was when i first met him... and then i told him what was going on and who my wife was he suddenly changed a tune, i told him i did not apreciate how he delt with my wife and i would like the paint she paid for and a refund of the 100% inflation he charged her. Well he got rude with me but he gave me the paint and offered me a credit, i told him to keep his credit and i will give up modeling before i ever step back in his store and left!
Wow, Long story so far :(
Anyways.. got back to the office checking around online found another store close to my work on the way home so i stopped there on the way home tonight, Talked to the guy for about an hour we where laughing about my model and he asked me if i have tried the new Testors One Coat Lacquer paints, i told him nope i have only worked with the tamiya stuff so far.
So he goes to the shelve and says "What kind of cars do you like" Well i just got the Ferrari so i told him them, Well he comes out with this revell model " Ferrari 360 Modena Spider" and this can of " Testors One Coat Lacquer - Blood red looking color) and says, Tell you what i will exchange your damaged model for this one with this paint for free if you paint it this color and bring me the finish model to see how the paint looks!
Well i jumped all over it! told him i would bring the other model in tomorrow and pick this stuff up, well he siad take this stuff now and try to fix up the old one if it does not work out toss it out and he will call it even! lol, very nice guy!
Well spent more time wondering around the store and found this baby and i had no choice but to buy it, this is where the "You people suck" come in, i have been bitten! and man i love this.. i have more untouched models than i do assembled :D
Bought this Tamiya (Open Interface Tom's SC430 2006) It was calling my name on the shelve and when i grabbed it and walked up to the counter with it.. he told me.. I will sell you this model, as long as you only look at it for a few months untill you get a few more models under your belt! :D

Yikes! Look at all those kits and not one built yet. Now you're a veteran modeler just like most of us!
Don't forget that model money makes better tool money. Start building and when you got the urge to buy another kit, buy some drills, or files, or knives, or...
Sorry to here about your bad experience. Good help is getting so much harder to find at the local shops now a days.

Hey Mike, welcome to the worlds most addicting hobby. I can't even remember having 6 models. Sounds like you got a pretty cool hobbyshop owner. Tell your wife that your obsession will only get worse from here on out, I read that you were doing this to relieve stress, hows that working out for you so far. :-)
Keep on building and don't fret about screwing things up, I've been building for years and still screw up. If your still looking for ideas on that Enzo, feel free to click the Enzo pic in my sig.
Good luck and welcome to the dark side.
Mike

Thanks Mike,
Yes still stress free, however i have to admit i tend to get alittle impaient with things, Something i will have to learn to get over. Or like i have managed to do buy more kits.

Well nice to see that more people are working on models than i thought. About the guy in the 1st store I ran into a few of them in my life time and so has my wife...The 2nd guy well i have never met a person so nice to do that with. All my hobbie shop near me have closed now i either buy online or i have to travel almost an hour and a half to get to the nearest hobbie store. Well good luck with the building and your stress level's

Is the first guy the store owner? If he is, he must be really stupid, because he is potentally throwing away hundreds of dollars of profit for a mere $2.50. You should go back to that shop and thank him, because without him you would've never discovered that awesome new shop that you will soon be spending too much money in.
By the way, nice little stash you have yourself there. I just re-started this hobby about a year ago, and I have already compiled about 30 untouched kits and only 6 completed models. Actually, I just recently finished the same SC430 kit you got there, and if you need any help I can offer you the little knowledge I have.
The link for the finished SC430 is here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=876546). Check it out if you'd like.

I would put the Enzo after the Tom's even! Painting is more difficult on the 430, but the Enzo is harder to build.
Since you are reminiscing in the present, I will do so of the past. When I returned to this hobby almost 5 years ago I was bored at a hobby shop until I saw a Giallo Enzo. I opened it and got all the codes for paint, got some brushes, tape, knives, etc. For the next week or so I spent every waking moment on it. I had no idea at the time that it was Tamiya's finest offering. Hell of a way to restart the hobby. The guys at both my Hobby Town's are awesome guys for help. They are the ones who sold my AB to my wife and were very polite as always. They have given me things, fixed things, called me for new models in stock - they are great. Sounds like you found a shop like this. That is what you need to be happy in this hobby. When you meet someone face to face that loves what you do it is a blast to talk about it. Well, you also need a lot of money and patience from your wife. 5 years from now you will have 45 unbuilt models and enough paint costs to have repainted your 1:1. It is all uphill from here.
Hint: Build that Camaro or 360S first.

Well i gotta love my wife :D
I sent her to the hobby store today to pick up a can of white primer, i only have the grey so far and could use the white for the smaller items she was going into town anyways for an appointment.
Well it turns out she came home with the white primer and a goodie.. lol
She said she was walking around the new shop that we found and as soon as he walked him the guy at the desk stopped talking to who he was and welcomed her and told her he would be with her asap. She said about 3 mins later he came and found her wondering in the halls looking at all the different models.
She told him what she was looking for and he took her right over showed her it started to explain how it works, she kind of cut him off and said it was for her husband and she smiled and said okay i understand.
She was looking at race cars already assembled in a display case and she really liked one in the case and told the guy that i would like that one, He told her it was alittle different from what i was already making as at this time he had come to understand who i was however he said if she wanted it he suggested he take his time with it.. lol,
Anywas i have no added the Mclaren Mercedes MP4/13 to my colllection of unbuilt, gotta wait for more experience models :P
