I have a 1994 GMC Jimmy 4.3L 4X4. It seems to me that everytime I back up, the engine shifts downwards and the radiator fan hits the radiator shroud. Could the engine mounts be loose? What other things should I check for? Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks for any input!

if the whole engine shifts downward, would suspect tranny mount first, but would be good to check motor mounts as well, probably all original right? if the rubber is cracked/worn/GONE, time to replace mounts.

OK, I checked the tranny mount and the engine mounts and both seemed to be fine. Yet, I still have the same problem. Any other ideas?

none at this point in time, if you're sure the mounts are good, and nothing the mounts connect to(frame and so on) is loose, then i am stumped until i see it. it only does this in reverse? does the engine bog down at all before the fan hits the shroud?

The engine does not bog down at all. As soon as I put it in drive and go forward, the fan quits hitting the shroud. I'm starting to wonder if the radiator support brackets themselves are loose and might be allowing the shroud to move towards the engine. What do you think?

i have been following this post i have a question. is the cooling fan centered in the plastic shroud ? my son has s10 vehicle and the fan is not centered i am a believer that to insure proper air flow this is important . does anyone know if this was normal or is it mount problem.........
