New twist to old heating problem

I've only been a 99 Aurora owner for six months now, but have fixed most of the annoying problems thanks to your posts on here. I'm waiting on 2 crankshaft sensors & 1 camshaft sensor to fix the stalling problem..or I hope.
My question is in regards to the overheating. I understand the normal operating temperature for the 4.0, mine runs over 200 but not past the next solid line, fluctuating when the fan cuts on. It has overheated in the past and the annoying antifreeze smell on the drivers side is present. I changed the thermostat and radiator cap and no puddles. I'm putting in a water pump because I think the smell is weeping from the pump. It's been cold here so she has been running OK, but today it climbed to the 60's and I noticed the digital outside temp sensor was rising also into the low 80's until I threw the heat on. I had noticed the temperature reading also going up when it was 35 outside and it was reading in the 60's on the guage, that's the day I overheated. I know that sensor is probably reading the heat blowing off that motor...but I have only seen the high numbers before she overheats. Has anybody else noticed this? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that a waterpump, belt and maybe tensioner will solve my problems and some water wetter...also I noticed the plastic hood was broken away from one bolt, maybe impeding the cool air flow when at high speeds. Any input would be greatly appreciated, especially anything that I may have not indicated. I've read over 600 post here so I know what some of the older diagnoses were, I'm just hoping that someone has found that miracle...Thanks for your help!

Access the radiator by removing the top cover. Check for leaks on the passenger side below hose connection. Had same problem/smell & the radiator was found to be leaking. You don't want the engine to get hot on you because the head gaskets are problems on Auroras. A cheap fix to the cooling system is to add Bars leak tablets/liquid to the radiator (bottom hose inlet on drivers side. Another helpful link for Auroras can be found at -
