’95 Taurus won’t start

The car is a ’95 SE, 3.8L V-6, Auto Trans.
Here is what's happening. When the ignition is turned to the ‘run’ position, the radiator and/or the fuel pump will come on and NOT switch off. Turning the ignition to the ‘start’ position, the starter will turn the engine strong – but it will not start. The radiator fan/fuel pump will continue to constantly run until the ignition switch id turned to the off position. I did a google search and found several posts on other forms by individuals with the exact same problem, but with no follow-up post or fixes. On one post, they recommended looking at a relay that is attached to the radiator and controls the fan and (supposedly) the fuel pump. This seems to be an electrical issue with the computer or a relay because the same thing happened a few weeks ago. I tried to start it for about 5 minuets and gave up and went inside (it was cold outside) but, when I went out later to try and troubleshoot it, it started and has been driven nearly every day until now.
I have not done any trouble shooting but will assume the engine is not getting spark because there is an open circuit somewhere.
Hopefully this is a ‘common’ problem and someone knows what is wrong.
Any ideas??

The relay module that was referenced near the radiator is the Constant Control Relay Module (CCRM). That seems like a logical place to begin the troubleshooting process since it contains the fuel pump relay as well as the relays for the radiator cooling fans, along with the relay to provide power to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
I do recall someone finding a bad ground wire to their CCRM which was causing some strange issues. If you do a search on this forum for CCRM using the "Search this forum" feature from the Taurus forum main page, you'll probably get details as well as where you can find a pinout for the CCRM.

I would check the coil, when these go bad they somtimes work in one temp but not the other, so if the car started on a not freezing day and won't on a colder day, and somtimes they just wont work. If you have a distributor follow the center wire it ends at the coil, if you have a distributorless ignition system "dis" the coil is what all of your spark plug wires go to. I'm not to sure how that particular engine is set up, but if you pull a spark plug and leave it pluged into the wire and then crank the engine and see if it sparks "carfull not to get shocked, it won't kill you but sting a little" My dad used to ask me to hold this and let me know if it sparks and then he would shock me just for laughs. If you get spark the coil is most likely good. you could also try disconecting the battery for a few minutes to see if it blanks the computer to get the fuel pump to shut off. also you could get a fuel pressure tester and check it at the fuel rail, and make sure its not out of gas. Good Luck

Well,
After all this time, the car is still sitting. Sometimes it starts, but most of the time it will not. And still, when it doesn’t start, the radiator fan and fuel pump will constantly run with the ignition in the ‘run’ position. If I here the fuel pump shut off (like it should) the car will start fine.
I have replaced the CCRM and the PCM with several different junk yard finds, but the same problem remains,---- sometimes it will start (and run for a few minuets, then die) but most of the time it just cranks.
Has anyone found a FIX for this aggravating issue

Did you try searching the forum for "CCRM" to see if you could find the ground wire thread that I referenced in post #2 above?

I remember a post where someone posted a pic of a bad (melted) quick-disconnect on the ground wire that is between the battery and the CCRM. I checked and re-seated this ground several times (at the QD and the chasses). Is there another ground to check?

There are a few grounds to the CCRM, I don't have a wiring diagram handy currently.
Interestingly there's another thread with very similar symptoms but on a 1996. Unlike the 1996, the CCRM on your car should be located on the radiator core support. There's also a thread for similar symptoms on a 1995, but again no follow up. Unfortunately the original poster did not follow up with what they found either. It's too bad there's not a way to require posters to follow-up when they get their issues fixed....
