Replace the right rear bulb first! If the bulb filiment is burned out, the flasher will not work.

If your left turn signal works then your flasher is fine! Either return the part or replace it anyhow just for kicks. BUT YOU DON'T NEED A NEW FLASHER.
As for where it is, I'm not positive on a 97. It MAY be in the same place as a 92, but not for certain. If it IS in the same place, then look at your dash. See the trunk release button? (Or if it is not there on a 97 see the left most ac vent? Look just below that a few inches) Go left from the trunk release button about five inches or so. Now, pretend you are Superman and can see through the dash material. It is behind the dash about where I said. It is close to the front of the dash and is held in a metal clip thingy. It pops out towards the rear of the car. To get it out get a flashlight and a long screwdriver (flat head). Lay on your back with your feet over the driver's seat and your head near the wall near the brake pedal. Look up with the light close to the front of the dash near the side wall of the car. You should see the flasher which will look just like the one you bought. Reach up with the screwdriver and pop the flasher towards the rear of the car and it will pop loose. Then, reach up and pull the wires and flasher down as far as you can. Now, replace. Leave the flasher loose up there somewhere. Trying to reattach it in its holder is very difficult and not worth the effort. It works fine without doing so.
