Carb. Trouble

I own an 65 Continental and drove it from Wisconsin to Georgia w/ basicly no problems. We had to replace the coil on the way down and that was it. The carb. had many gas leaks from the mounting gaskets and the float bowl gasket. So, far i have replaced both gaskets on the carb.,a new voltage regulator, and altenator. My car runs great at idle and takeing off from a stop. The problem I am having is the car stalls or chokes itself at higher speeds. starting at around 45mph. This doesn't stop the car but there is diffenate hesitation, and going up any degree of an hill is pointless, because then it will shut off. If anyone has delt w/ this type of situation...please help a brother out. lol

Well Brother... it's been awhile since I've played with all those manual gadgets form the late 60's :)
Hopefully the older (wiser) members will also chime in here soon.

My first suspicion is improper Spark Advance..

You may have two stages of spark advance; one inside the the Distributor known as "Centrifugal Advance" which works with weights and levers; and another one mounted outside on the Distributor body known as a "Vacuum Advance" which pulls the Breaker Points mount plate one way or another by vacuum tubes from Intake Manifold vacuum.

Centrifugal advance mechanisms can get stuck and need cleaning.
Vacuum advance units depend on vacuum on a diaphragm which can tear/leak and the vacuum lines harden/crack/leak.

BTW. There's a GREAT classic Lincoln forum here (http://www.thelincolnforum.net/phpbb3/index.php?sid=e9246a321b680ff8a2e819f2b1df2b52) where you'll meet 100's of folks driving cars just like your's :)
