Apparently I've thoroughly pissed off at least one respected A/F member here because I didn't reply to several PM's.
Here's my problem. I am supposed to get email notification on subscribed threads. I am supposed to get email notification when I receive a PM.
I don't. I haven't received an email from A/F for months. I have made sure that everything in my control panel was correct. It is.
I was out of the country during the period that said A/F member became pissed off at me because I didn't reply, and I did not have internet access during that time.
I would like email notification from A/F. I would like not to piss off people that are sending PM's and I get no indication of a new PM. A/F doesn't have a simple notice when I log into the page to remind me, like other forums.
Sorry that I've pissed some people here off. I'll try not to do that again. Does anyone else not get email notification? Is your ISP treating A/F like a spammer? Does anyone know how I get email from an ISP that treats A/F like a spammer?
If you've sent me a PM since October, I'm dreadfully sorry that I missed them. I will reply promptly (at least when I have internet access). I'm not ignoring anyone. A/F is ignoring ME :shakehead

I only know that I do get email every time I get a PM or when someone posts a reply in a subscribed thread. I also get a pop-up when I get on AF when I have a PM waiting for me.
So my guess would be that your ISP spamfilters AF and that your browser is set up wrong to handle the pop-up (or any other pop-up blocker). Maybe you can contact you ISP about it and they might be able to tell you more or even fix it for you. And for us it might be useful to know what kind of browser you use and if you have any overactive firewall or pop-up blocker that you know of.
And in my opinion it's not your fault that someone got pissed off at you. You didn't do it on purpose. I really hope that your problem gets fixed soon, so you can enjoy AF again ;).
Greetz,
Stefan

So far we've worked out everything just fine about the unanswered PM's  but I'm still waiting to hear from A/F about the emails.
I have a "screened mail" folder already set up in my Comcast account for filtered spam. Nothing from A/F shows up there, so I'm assuming that Comcast isn't getting my emails from A/F in the first place, or they filter out some spam that doesn't even get to my "screened mail" folder where 99% of the little spam I get ends up. Perhaps A/F is considered a spammer big enough to not even get through to a user's screened mail folder? When I logged into Comcast to check my spam settings I couldn't even find any information on me manually allowing emails from particular websites to go through unfiltered. Again, what spam I do get should be getting to my "screened mail" folder for me to delete. If I saw an A/F email there, I would tag it "this is not spam". I simply get no A/F emails, even though I'm supposed to get "instant email notification" for subscribed threads, and email notification about PM's. I got them regularly up until some time in Sept. or October, when they stopped. I tried in December to get someone to look into it, but it certainly wasn't treated as a priority.
If you PM someone and they don't reply, they could be away from the computer, and completely unaware that they're getting PM's. I didn't know I had unread PM's until I went to that page today to PM someone else. Very frustrating :banghead:

AF's mail system sucks at the best of times, it ranks right alongside the non-functional search feature and broken gallery as things on AF which should be fixed and aren't because our admin staff are 'too busy' to take care of.
This is no fault of Bob, he is a victim of one more server glitch which remains to be fixed.

I do get emails when I have a PM or a subsribed thread has been responded too. I do not get a pop-up though when I have a PM though. I have made it a habit to visit AF everyday and when I do I look to see if I got a PM as it makes me feel important.

Well you wouldn't- you have that option unselected. But if you go into your User CP and select Edit Options, you can turn it on (you too, Bob).
It makes for a nice way to ensure you get PMs, and I personally haven't found a popup blocker that stops it.

I don't know what may have changed, or who did it for me, but all of a sudden I got two popup PM message reminders when I logged in after being gone all afternoon. I'll check my emails now to see if I got any emails too. Thanks to whomever :sunglasse

I went into your user profile to see if was active for you- strangely, neither 'no' nor 'yes' was selected. :screwy: So I selected yes for you- guess it seems to have worked. Happy to help.
