A body capable scan tool is required to retrieve ABS DTC's. They will tell what circuits to check. They will NOT tell you what part is faulty.

my 98 did the same thing for a while. i found a broken sensor wire behind the left front tire. your issue may be behind either tire.

I had a broken speed sensor wire on the passenger side front hub of my '97 that I replaced but I still had to reset the Diagnostic Trouble Code after the repair.

I have the same problem on my 2000 Chevy Blazer. How do you replace the wire? Do you have to take the brake and drum off to get to where the switch wire plugs in? Also, how do you reset the ABS light? Thanks for your help.

A lot of the wiring is made into wheel bearing.
If you can repair the broken wire and get it where it will flex up and down with the wheel.
ABS brake codes will clear on there own when problem is fixed.

hamlinhazel,
not sure if 98s and 00s are the same but on mine you have to remove the rotor to get to 2 small allen screws behind the hub. then there are 2 brackets that hold the wire to the upper a-arm then it unplugs from the main wire that goes to the abs box. the whole wire you will replace is about 24 inches long and sort of expensive, about $75-80.00. i just spliced mine back together and no lights or problems since. good luck.
