Hello, I have a problem w/ my tranny. Feels like it starts in 2nd and wont go into 4th I get a engine light and the code is 1886, 3-2 solenoid. It was fine this morning except some very minor slipping so I put in a bottle Lucas trans fix and then the problems started. Is it the Lucas or just dumb luck. Thanks guys let me know.

...I put in a bottle Lucas trans fix and then the problems started....

Happens every time. Drain that stuff out ASAP. When was the last time the transmission was serviced? The transmission fluid and filter should be changed every 30,000 miles.

My hero again! I changed the filter and fluid a weak ago. I will drain the pan tomarrow. Then what? should i change the filter too? Do I have to do some thing with the solenoids? does the lucas gum them up or some thing. Let me know the steps to take. Thank you so much yet again!!!

This may be a tricky one being you just changed it. While the pan is off, make sure the connections to the solenoids are clean and tight, and yes, change the filter also, and use DexronIII or higher fluid. Then cross your fingers.

Should I just change the solenoid?

What I meant was in adition to chaging the fluid and filter

That's up to you. It might save you another trip inside the pan. When was the last time you changed fluid and filter, (before last week)?

Just to add a little to this....
When you are pulling off the pan and installing it, be careful not to damage the solonoids. I have seen this happen a few times where people damage/break the solonoids as they are working the pan on/off and then all hell breaks loose when its back together and its not working properly.

I baught the truck only a month ago and did the tranny service after that so I am not sure when it was done before I did it. Thanks for the tip I will be careful not to damage any thing when installing the pan. would taking out the solenoid and cleaning it be best? And should I never use lucas again? Thanks Guys!!

You can check the resistance of the 2-3 shift solenoid valve as follows:

19-24 ohms @ 68F
24-31 ohms @ 212F

If it starts out in second gear and shifts to third:
1) there may be crud in the valve binding it up.
2) the electrical connection is faulty.
3) there is a damaged seal for the valve.

As far as additives, if GM wanted them in there, they would specify it. Additives are nothing more than a band-aid in a can. Save them for when the kid scratches himself!
