Matching my car's paint..

Today i was reminded of how much of a pain in the ass these winters are.. A good 3 or 4 square inches of paint on my rear pumper were scraped off by some ice as i pulled out of a parking spot from work..

It was sitting there for only 5 hours... stupid ohio..

Anyway i was hoping there was a way i could fix it myself, rather than buying an entirely new bumper. Its only the pain that was affected. i own a 2001 silver z24.. Where can i get my hands on the paint for it to patch it up? or will the spot itself stand out after i do?

Horrible week for my poor car. Thanks guys

Personally, I'd recomend getting it professionally done unless you really know what you're doing when it comes to painting. Any automotive store should carry a GM silver style paint which should match pretty well, still should go to a shop.

What would that end up costing me do you think?

Plus, i had already planned on getting a kit for the car which would include the rear bumper in the summer. I need only something temporary so its not such an eye sore for me.

a good estiamte would be about $185 cuz they would paint the whole bumper.

If you're getting a kit in the Summer, Then I'd say save your money and just be patient. The kit is going to cost alot to paint in itself so save for that. How bad does it look? any pics?

well if ya get ne paint to match too it its goin to look like shit sliver is one of those colours that is hard to touch up. its goin to look like black on white. if ya got a good buddy that knows how then maybe u can get it done for cheep but a shop is goin to cost ya bout 200 and it may take a dday or two depending on how busy they r. if ur putting on a new bumper then i would worry bout it. just keep saying to urself it only goin to look like shit for a little bit.

you are going to have to re-spray it....judging by your knowledge you won't do it right (no offense)

simple run down.
wet sand
paint
clear
sand
re-install

you will have to use a decent paint something like ppg would probably be your best bet....no dupli or anything like that. if you are going to buy a kit then screw the bumper.

i would highly suggest to go to a body shop to it spray. they can put it in a booth and bake it on and do it right plus u got a lifetime warrenty on their work. and if ya dont like it rite away u can have them redo it.

spray can paint is a bad idea it dont have ne harder in it and wont go on rite. as well wit it being a bumper it has to be sprayed wit a promoter to have the paint go on better or it wont stick.

you can get pre-mixed car spray paint in a rattle can at some paint shops. it will do the job but I would not recomend it, never really goes on even over large areas. I have done a few interiors with it though

oh i tried that out on my interior but it was a bad idea i dont know if it was what i done but it never turned out rite. i ended up getting my buddy from work to spray it for me and now it great.

prep is the main idea what stuff like that, get your light sanding clean wil mineral sprits or wax and greese remover, let dry then clean it again. let dry and spray your primer, (high build if you are looking to remove any texture) then let fully dry then start your painting and clear. Wet sanding afterwords can help out alot

No offence taken :iceslolan

Ill just wait till summer to take care of it i guess. Dont want to make anything worse than it already is. Its a heartbrake though, The rest of the exteriors flawless.
