Power Steering Pump....Rack

OK...anothet issue amongst many. The power steering pump was grinding/whining so I replaced it. I worked a lot of air from the system also. I think the pump went again...it was a used one seeing that remans are a month out on back order. I was told the rack may also be an issue. Something has leaked under the car and made quite a mess. Is a rack difficult to change for someone with a moderate amount of automonile experience or is it better to send it out. I know some jobs are better left to those with the right tools and experience.......thanks again

You may want to check the pressure and return lines running from the pump to the rack for the source of your leak. The return line leaking is a fairly common problem with the Alero. They tend to break down where the rubber line is joined to the metal line. There's no repairing them.
It's not real hard to change, but there is very limited room to get to the fitting at the rack end of the line. I found a 15mm crows foot to be very helpful in getting the fitting loosened and tightened.
Hope this helps...and that you don't end up having to change the rack...
