Does anyone else have this add on the left margin which runs down and pushes everything to the right?
Its really annoying I don't mind adds too much on the top or bottom but on the left margin give me a break.

Get Firefox and adblocker and block it. I don't get any ads on here and I don't pay for the premium account or whatever. Got to love it.

I do. Lets see a show of hands... who wants to pay for a membership? Those ads are keeping this place free so whats the problem? 3/4" of an inch on the left side of the screen is way better IMO than shelling out monthly.

I see it and it's annoying as hell. As if this place doesn't make enough damn money, then they had to go and add that. I only get it on the main page, but still, they keep putting more and more up and they're getting more and more annoying. Pretty soon all we'll see is one big ass ad.

If you look in your upper right corner next to the banner ad, you will also notice the new addition of a "digg it" link. Now you can share info on AF with others.

Not sure what this has to do with this thread but whatever.

I also see that big ass add. It is rather annoying, I dont have a problem with the ones at the bottom or top.

And there are tons of free dsm sites. If they had a fee here no one would join, everyone would just move to another site. Im sure most people on here are also members of multiple sites.

Not sure what this has to do with this thread but whatever.

It has to do with the addition of both items ,1) the ad on the side is experimental for the time being, and 2) the "digg it" link was added at the same time as a new feature. Many sites are adding that link so their content can be shared.

Ok I got you. The digg it thing is fine, but I vote no for the big add.

Not like my opinion counts but I was just letting you know.

I don't get how the "digg it" thing works. You click on it to share the site with someone else? Couldn't you just paste the link? And I don't think AF has any trouble "advertising" itself. Anytime I do any type of automotive search on Google, the first couple links I see are from AF. :2cents:

I also vote no for the side banner too, in case you want to take a vote. :thumbsdow:

I see it as well and I dont like it. They can add the ad, but put it somewhere else more discret please. I like Balance in things and this makes me feel nausius (bad spelling at 6:30am on Friday night >_>)

Guys I found my wife through that website last night. We are to have an arranged marriage as soon as I can pay for her air fare to Canada. I am so thankful that automotive forums has given me and all of you this great opportunity.
I get a dollar everytime I write that

Stevie, ask your wife if shes got a sister.

If you guys dont like the ads so much, maybe you should start donating. I'm hardpressed to believe Igor is making any reasonable amount of money from this place and IMO you guys are foolish to think otherwise. This place is taking oodles of server space, plus domain, hosting, and vBulletin fees. Maybe I am just sticking my foot in my mouth here (not like it would be the first time) but regardless bitching about it isnt going to make them go away.

Websites make no money to begin with. They lose money because of hosting fees, programmers, upkeep... all those things to keep a website going.

It's all the ads in that allow the owners to make money off of the sites. Ads, signup fees, products... that's where they start making the money. It's good to donate anyways. If there's freeware software I find that I like a lot, I will donate to that company. As a programmer myself, I know how that goes and would want donations for my work.

He's probably using the AF ads to fund his racedriver lifestyle he seems to have going in the upper right hand corner.

Sponsors pay a pretty penny to get on the sides of those cars and I dont think the prize money is exactly a small amount either.

Thanks, I've had Firefox for a very long time and never even knew about the adblocker, I feel like I haven't lived until now...Thank you. The adblocker literaly eliminates all ads, if it misses one then all you need to do is right click and say block ad and the Firefox will never load the ad again. Pretty sweet.

True, but unless you're racing nascar or F1 or something very popular like that, sponsors only make up for so much of the bill, the rest you have to foot yourself. And it's the same with prize money. Unless you're a racing celebrity, even if you win all the time, you hardly make enough to cover the gas/tires/wear on the car for the day.

Well, someone suggested getting the Firefox. I have always liked IE and I hate switching shit unless I feel I really need to. Well, after hearing that you can adblock like that I was like fuck IE. Just got Firefox and I dont like the subtle differences, but I LOVE some of these add ons. Good call yall.

I have both on my laptop, but I only use IE, I always have. I've tried Firefox a bunch of times, but can never get comfortable with it.

I use Firefox all the time now. We used to use it at school because it has Web Development addin tools. I only used IE then, but since then I've switch to FireFox at home, work, and gotten most people at work to switch over also. Sadly, I still have to use IE when doing web programming, as CSS doesn't work the same between browsers. I hate programming for IE. Firefox does what you want it to do.
