Waterproofing idea

I have been looking into various ways to start working on waterproofing my 92 sport 4.0 and have come across several good ideas and methods for waterproofing most of the engine. Only thing that I haven't been able to find much info about is the alternator and interior items such as the fuse block and such which with a little engineering shouldn't be to hard. But for the alternator alot of people say that it's not really the water that damages it but the mud and muck that gets inside it destroy's the brushes. Alot of people talked about mounting the alternator in a different location but as most of you know space is limited under the hood. What I was thinking about doing is instead of trying to seal up something that needs to breathe because it's air cooled getting a sealed marine alternator and then routing the vent tube up higher somewhere to keep water from getting in through it. Has anyone seen or known someone who's tried this or know of a website where someone did this to their jeep to give me an idea of how well it worked?
