I Need Help With 95 Rodeo

I need help for this one... My rodeo doesnt want to start. It cranks but thats all it does. The problem started when about a week ago it started to bog down when i tried to acclerate. I would acclerate more and it would go away and the check engine light would come on. Once that would happen the it would run fine. I ran like that for a couple of days. One night it would just not start. I checked all the fuses and they are all fine. I am really stuck on this. I need help. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

what engine is it? have you had your codes read? that may tell you more. you say it won't start, is it sparking or just turning over....

I suggest you buy a code reader from autozone or northern tool (approx. $60)or something and find out why you have the check engine light first. I believe autozone does lend a tool so you could possibly try that.

Like Andrew said, we need more information about the symptoms and what engine your Rodeo has.

Any Rodeo earlier than 1996 is OBD I and is not compatible with the newer OBD II code readers.

You need to jump the ALDL connector and count the flashes on the check engine light.

There are plenty of posts here on how to do it, just search.

Get back to us after you retreive the code(s).

Good Luck,
Dale

with those symptoms it could be a ton of things. but here's my gut reaction. it's the fuel pump system, probably the fuel pump itself, but possibly as simple as the fuel pump relay (swap with another relay in the box that is the same for a simple rulein/ruleout). AND/OR the connectors at the fuel pump may have come loose OR the wire/connector junction has become corroded or dislodged.

first check: when you turn the key on, without starting, do you hear the fuel pump run for 2-3seconds?

it would be helpful to read the CEL code, but i'm *guessing* it was set as a byproduct of poor fuel delivery.

The engine is a v6 3.2. It has no check engine light on as of right now. It has gas going through and it has spark. it cranks but wont start. also i hear the fuel pump come on when i turn the key.

It has gas going through and it has spark. it cranks but wont start. also i hear the fuel pump come on when i turn the key. the codes are stored, so even if the light is not currently on (well it doesn't run so how do you know), anyway, you should read the stored code by jumpering the diagnostic connector and reading the flashes. do you know how to do that?

it'd be the place to start....

Just curious-

How many miles are on the vehicle?

Have you done a compression test?

Has the timing belt ever been replaced?

It might be worth your time to remove one of the timing belt covers to see if the belt is still on.

if you have the 3.2 with the 3 coil packs on front, try changing out the far right one. it sound like mine a while back i wont say what i went throught to find that out but for all that money it took a $20.00 part .hope it helps
