ok guys and gals alike. heres my problem. the service engine soon light suddenly came on in my 2002 pontiac grand prix se. v6. right afterwards there was a strange smell (kinda like a belt of somekind) as well as an intense vibrating of the motor, but only while de-accelerating or idling.
someone please help. any ideas will be appreciated. as well as someone telling me its not the timing belt(or anything else really expensive)since i just bought the car in Nov.

Welcome to AF!!
This sounds like a misfire issue to me. I would have the codes pulled from the computer and they should indicate what is going on. Trying to diagnose it based on your description would be very hard. If the light is still on then Autozone will scan it for free. It could also be fuel related issue such as water in the fuel but it can cause random misfires as well. After you have it scanned post the codes and someone will be glad to help you out.
