alright here goes i just finished up doing an intake manifold gasket,on a chevy astro with the vortec 4.3 now we took off everything replaced the gaskets and re-assembled. hooked everything up and first crank it started right up :evillol:
Heres where the trouble starts,so i noticed it was running rough a "misfire" if your would so i turned it off and checked the wires everything was tight.my freind just then realized when we took the throttle body housing off he unplugged a couple of the plastic clips for the spider web, that go into the manifold it self.so we remove the throttle body and clip those back in and put everything back together.this time no start.i removed all the plugs and checked the cylinders for fuel becasue this thing smells like fuel real bad worse then wehen i disconnected the lines.i blow out all the cylinders and 3 out of 6 had a lot of fuel in them. so now i have go back to basics.i've check for spark with spark tester when i crank it lights.not overly bright but lights every once in a great while it will want to start the glow will brighten and just when it sounds like it will fire it goes back to the annoying continuos crank. i know i have fuel pressure up to the spider web because the bleeder screw is right before it and it has some pressure. i also can hear the fuel pump working a lot longer than it normally does about a 5 to 10 sec. run time. even after cycling the key wehen you turn the key off and walk away the pump is still running for a minute.i also noticed with the spark tester as i crank it lights, but when i stop cranking and turn the key off the tester faintly lights and the motor coughs. im really puzzled and hope i didnt mess the spider web up but dont know how to proseed.please any hellp is much appreciated

What year Astro?

Did you try to pressurize the spider assembly prior to putting the upper plenum back on to check for leaks? With all that gas in the cylinders you can hydrolock and the starter won't even be able to turn the engine over until you get rid of the liquid (fuel).

You mention you have fuel pressure- but how much? - on a CMPFI system, you must have 60-66 psi initial fuel pressure to start-- any spider assembly leaks- prior to fuel regulator will lower fuel pressure and flood the intake and the gas will drool into the cylinders as you have found.

I have seen the plastic feeder lines leak- from being cracked and once from not being sealed over the o-ring at the spider properly- if you pressurize the assembly prior to upper plenum installation- then you can inspect it for leaks- but be careful- I have been sprayed in the face with fuel- To pressurize- just reach up and turn on ignition- but shut it off right away if you have a leak---or you can jumper the fuel prime connector underhood to pump up the fuel pump and test pressure and for leaks-- also look for pressure to maintain at least 50 psi for an extended period after fuel pumps shuts off. This will determine if fuel delivery is or is not your problem-- with all the gas smell- I would say it is your problem......

Also I would check or better yet, change your oil- with all that gas in the cylinders- you can bet your oil is contaminated with gas and is probably over filled and now a volitility hazard...smell your dipstick to confirm........good luck
