Anyone know any good sites that gives the basics of bodywork ?

I'm thinking about doing all my own work, but wanna research a little bit so i have an idea what i'm getting my self into.

I wish I could help, but all I can do is add another question... How do I get rid of rust spots? Real big ones...

If you want to "KIX" dents in your car I would start with some steel toe boots...

I actualy am also interested in this topic... I know BONDO is one of the main ingrediants to autobody work... Also If the mamage is bad enough welding and shit (Which I can do) I just dont know how to determine which will be easier for my situation... Im thinking about welding in a new back right fender cause some asshole in a camaro rubbed me in a race and split! (Take note, I didnt want to race the piece of shit but he cept revvin on me for 3 blocks... I take no pride in spanking a V6 that weaghs like 3000-3500 Lbs and only has 200-250 Hp... Also note, the dent is in my REAR fender ;)

Well depending on the size of the dent you may have to do different things. If it is small enough you can get paintless dent repair....it is about 50 or 60 bucks a panel. or you can spend about 5000 bucks and get the tools and do it yourself...haha My boss is teaching me how to do it so if you bring it here I can do it for cheap! But then again maybe you are talking about a big dent....hhmmmmm I know nothing!:lol2:

LOL...i wanna "kix" some dents into someone's car...i have combat boots...will that help??? i wish body work was easier to do..i need to do some to my hatch

Im probably gonna cut and weld since Ima get a whole new paint job... I also heard from a paint shop (A verry GOOD paint shop) That places like MACO and other cheap paint places do a good job PAINTING the car but there prep work just blows monkey balls! This guy alvin (One of the car painters) said he had HIS truck painted by MACO because he was lazzy and he did it on the weekend. He got one of the other guys working at the shop to prep and primer it for $50.... It looks great! He spent less that $1000 and its a bitchen cherry red :eek:

My car was painted by maco and the paint/spray job looked good except it goes onto the rubber window seal and you can see the prep work is shit. Also there was no primer sprayed on the car and its chiping off my urethane body kit :( So I am hearin what he's sayin Im do my own body work sand blast the old paint off and primer it then spend like $1000 or less on a nice paint job ;)

This is definetly a job that I will be performing this summer. The chiltons manual has a pretty good section in it for some basic knowledge of dent repair. They have a fiberglass repair kit now that I am going to research, its supposed to be a lot better than bondo, doesnt crack or shrink, and looks alot better when painted. My brother practically rebuilt around the rear fender wells of his s-10 with it, it actually looked real good considering the amount of space he fixed.

hmm maaco is offerin some good deals on paint right now too ... I think i might need to bust out the bondo and roll primer for a while :devil:

Remember to blast off all the old paint! There are sevral ways of going about this... I like a sandblaster, but chemicals work good too (For you panzies out there) Paint is realy heavy! How much do you think it will take to paint your car? Probably 3 or 4 gallons depending on how much you want to spend... Ever weagh 3 gallons of paint? :eek: lets just say its heavy....

i did my own body work and i learned lots of shit! there are several kind of dents some come out easy some come out hard! its so much to explain if you really need help msn me at [email protected] and i could help you to do your own body work!

3 or 4 gallons :eek: do you know how much that is. With that much paint I could probably paint 7 or 8 different hatches. You have to keep in mind that 1 gallon makes 2 gallons sprayable. when I painted my wagon it only took me 3/4 of a gallon. To do a 4th generation hatch it will take like 1/2 gallon at the most.

And as for bondo goes.....Don't do it. That is if you plan to keep your car for a while. Due to the fact that it will crack at some point in time. What I do is if there is a dent buy a new pannel, or cut it out and weld a new peice in its place.

And for the rust. what you have to do is grind off ALL of the rust. not just the surface rust. then go from there. If it rusted all the way through then you have to cut the peice out and weld a new peice in its place also....

Just my 2 cents...:D

Yea, the easiest way to get rid of rust is to cut the whole piece out and weld a new piece in. Now as for the bondo chipping later down the line, i don't know for sure on that, some bondo is needed for small dents, but if it is a big dent, just get a new panel.

And Seth, there is no such thing as a Rear Fender, its called a Quarter Panel. Fenders are on front. :flipa:

Anyone have 2 quarter panels ? i need a passengure side and a driver side.

As far as bondo goes. I'm not touching that stuff. I much rather use Duraglass, alot stronger and well worth the extra sanding.

anybody know themselves or know where to find info on tailight conversion what u would need basic procedures etc.

You could paint a garage with 3 or 4 gallons...haha....Yeah you have to remeber that after you thin it out you get about double what you started with.

hey does msn have a chat/buddy list type of thing, i have msn but i dont really use it cuz i have aol but gettin rid of it and after comin from aol everything else seems much harder

Yeah MSN is almost the same as AOL.
It's actually easier to use in my mind.

if you like AOL, but dont want to pay for it, get a cheap ISP and use AIM

All ISPs are the same, they just make it seem like you can only do certain things with a certain ISP, but you can do whatever on whichever one you want, the only difference is the browser they come with. Which if your like me, you use Internet explorer, even if a ISP comes with a browser. But yea, just get a cheap ISP, or a good ISP and get AIM, works just fine, or if you want, you could get Trillian, it has all of the instant messengers in it, AOL, MSN, YaHoo, ICQ, and a bunch of IRC things.
