I had the same problem with my 91. Sometimes it would start, sometimes nothing. If you are not getting any computer codes that would indicate a problem with the module, then you are probably right, it is the ignition switch. The factory installed VATS (Vehicle anti theft system) is the problem. That pellet in your key is a resistor that completes a connection so the car will start. On my car there are two very thin wires that come off the ignition switch and go down the inside of the steering column, and every time I turn the key it moves these wires. Eventually one of the wires frayed to the point where sometimes there was contact and sometimes not. This is one of the most poorly designed pieces of junk I have ever seen. It cost me about $600 - $800 to fix because the entire steering column has to be taken apart to fix. This was 10 years ago on a 91 model so your results may vary. Good luck, it is a very frustrating problem indeed, especially when it took months before anyone could even figure it out for me.

i have a 93 t/a in which i took the computer out of and sent it off to be tuned if you look around you can find sites that do it but the point im getting at is to get your computer tuned is 150 bucks and they will turn off the VATS on it so it could be a cheaper solution depending on what you find out
