Problems Starting my Jeep Wrangler

I went out to my 2003 Jeep Wrangler yesterday and it wouldn't crank. It showed the symptoms of a dead battery, which was something I was expecting to happen any day based on the age of the battery. I purchased a new battery, without having the old one tested, silly mistake on my part. I installed the new battery, and still nothing. The engine doesn't try to turn over at all. I turn the switch and get absolutely nothing. Any suggestions about what the problem might be would be greatly appreciated!

Just a couple of other things to say. First, the gauges are coming on when I try to crank the Jeep, andc second the check engine light is coming on and staying lite.

Some suggestions..... dirty battery cable terminals, at the battery and/or at the starter .
Bad starter or solenoid....... try tapping the starter with a hammer while someone else turns the key.
Bad ignition key switch circuit to the solenoid....... test the circuit for power when someone turns the key.
