Somehow I managed to screw up the fill plug on my 93 manual 5 speed. It was on the really tight and I was using a 3/8" ratchet but it somehow stripped the inside of the plug. Is there another plug to fill the tranny, or does anyone have any thoughts on how to remove it now. Thanks alot fellow metroeons. Happy New Year.

drain tranny and put plug back in, pull the speedometer gear out and pour 2.5 quarts on 80w90 in hole then put speedometer gear back in, there is a bolt you can pull out on top also but hole is so small it takes all day to put the fluid in. with gear out you can just use a long funnel and pour it straight in

an 'easy-out' often works [usually a left hand threaded, tapered tool that fits into the buggered socket]. you'll possibly need to flush out any chips but it'll restore the original system. drilling and tapping the plug for a smaller plug could also work.

the crvt69, speedo gear removal is probably the simplest solution.

I always use the clutch cable bracket bolt hole to fill the transmission. Easier to get to than the speedo cable gear hole.

To fill I make a funnel by cutting the bottom off a 1 qt. gear oil bottle, invert it and put the nozzle into the bolt hole.

Thanks for all the replies. This board is very helpful because of you guys that reply to what are probably considered stupid questions. Thanks a bunch. FYI- I ended up using the clutch bracket bolt hole, but it did take a long time to fill. Next time I will probably use speedo cable hole, if I don't manage to get the original plug out to replace. Thanks again.
