shimming a starter

97 1500 350 2WD. can anyone point me in the right direction on which shims to use on my starter so i get that 1/4" gap? i got 2 1/64" shims, 2 1/32" and 1 1/16" shim

your starter instructions should tell you the proper gap and exactly where to measure. i believe 1/4in is too much. you add shims to one side or both sides until gap is correct. you may need no shims. if you need too many get another starter from another company as i have found this is a problem with some .

i just took off the flywheel cover and this should make it a lot easier to figure out where to put it, thanks for ur help, i was just looking for a shortcut because if id done it the hard way it never get it done
