The tensioner on my wife's van is frozen - no movement at all. Any guidance on what is required to replace the tensioner would be highly appreciated. I can find nothing in the Haynes manual or the OEM manual regarding the R & R of the tensioner. Thanks: Kahuna

Just did this a few months ago.
If memory serves me correctly, you'll have to remove the belt, take off the alternator, and then take off the bracket the tensioner sits on to R & R.
Took me a about 2~3 hours I think.
Also, my friend tells me that the tensioners are known to go out frequently. I only replaced mine since I thought the cricket sounds was caused by a bad tensioner. NOPE! I was misled. At least it was only a $40 part.
Well if I can help you further let me know.

This would be an optimum time to install the Gates fix kit # 39379. It is an excellent price for what you get. Call it cheap insurance for anyone who has one of these vans that their wife drives. Shop around, you can get this kit at many different places. Try googling "38379K" and you will quickly find out why you should install one of these kits.
