Fuel gauge malfunction

Hi,

I've read posts showing that a fuel gauge that tends to move about randomly may be due to a problem with a sending unit. I also read in a post to drop the gas level in the tank to 1/4 and then add some fuel cleaner to the tank and that would fix the problem. Has this worked for you? Also can you tell me how one would go about removing the sending unit (pictures welcomed) to check if it is the real culprit. Any other suggestions are welcomed.

Thank you.
