1990 celica gts hatchback suspension

Hello everyone ..new to this forum. I have a question concerning the suspension. I just purchased this car yesterday.....I notice that there is quite a lot of loud noise when i hit bumps....like the suspension is dead. Mostly on passenger side. Are these Celicas noisy like that or does this indicate a problem?
