hmmm... I assume you have tried muscling it from the inside while you have the handle pulled?

The only next step I would follow is to try to take off the door panel from the inside so that you can perhaps see what is binding in the door or if there is a broken part. The door panels typically are held on with clips (wish I could show you a picture). These clips are around the outside edge of the panel inset about 1/2 inch. try to get a butter knife or other thin object between the door and the panel and pry the clips loose. This can be a bit tricky so take caution not to brake your window. Once you understand how the clips work it is a piece of cake and you can remove the rest of the panel. Other than that, I am not sure what other course of action there may be.

One other thing did come to mind.... does the lock appear to work? In other words, if you unlock it with the key does the internal lock switch move to lock/unlock position?

I don't think you can take the door panel with the door shut. Is the window up or down? If its up have a buddy kick the door itslef from inside the car while you hold the handle up. Try taking the inside trim off that mates with the door handle, usually on screw, and see what you can find. Good Luck

Good point, it may be impossible to get to with the door closed.

I'd say kick it open. My guess is that something got disconnected from the latch, so if it was in the lock position its not gonna give. Try what I suggested on the door handle.
