Oil pressure switch location?

somehow doing while doing the clutch on my car, i managed to break the oil pressure switch... the one that tells you how much pressure you got& displaying it on your dash..
where is it? lol :banghead:

Under hood, center, rear engine area, above transmission flange, mounted in engine block

Its on the driver's side rear of the engine. It should be right behind the intake manifold. I've heard its a tight fit to get to. You may also need a special socket for it, I know I had to get one when mine broke off. But mine is in a different location than yours. You may be able to get it with a crescent wrench rather than a 1-1/4" deep special socket.

alrighty. thanks man.. i shall check it tommorow..hopefully its just a loose wire..since its reading 0- and not a broken switch X_X

even if it is the switch it isn't that much. I think mine was like $20 for my 93 Z28.

Mine was $25 from Autozone and $30 from Advance Auto. Yes, I had to buy 2 because I broke the first one trying to install it. Those things break easily. It was a bitch to get to on my 94Z, right above the oil filter.

I don't remember it being too terribly horrific of course when I changed mine it was after doing an entire engine swap because the old one busted lol... and this was several years ago.

haha i see..damn. i cant fix it yet.. its too late now since everyone came to my hosue to fix their damn cars x_x. arg. oil change on 3 cars, plugs on two...man im tired..

haha im jk wright, thanks for actually even looking it up for me. it makes more sense now, once i know where it is tho hahaha.
the biggest problem was that it was already BROKEN, so i coudnt even feel it out..cuz it didnt feel the same as the one i had bought.. only after i figured, eh, wtf lets just take it off did it actually hit me..that it was correct! lolz
btw, is it ok for it to read low after an install? its reading like..10-15psi @ idle.. and around WOT 20psi.. is this bad?! and wtf would cause it to drop so bad? it was always a bit low.. and it never dips into the red, but still.. kinda scary for me.
anyway, thanks for the help guys. i couldnt fit a socket on it, (yes it was a special one) so i got a giant deep socket (1/2" drive) and i put it around the whole thing.. the thing was still too big, so i stuck tape around the sensor to make it fatter....and screwed it in. its snug as hell now! no leaking around it eithier, after going WOT and stuff. :] yay.

That may be the cause of the "false" low reading. Most block located sensors have a tappered thread eliminating the need for thread tape/sealer. I know iwth temp units, use of tapes and sealers cause false readings.
The point of no retrun on low oil pressure is around 7PSI and most vehicles now shut down before that ever happens.

ohh sorry, misunderstanding here. i meant the body of the sensor.. the sensor threads itself had some red coating on it so i didnt touch that at all.. lolz, i had to cover the body of the sensor and the nut with tape so it'll get thicker to fit a 1/2" socket on to turn the darn thing..
seems to be idling around the same rpm, sounds about the same (no straining), power is about the same..as before when i had the other sensor (Working..) and it used to read higher, so
1) old sensor was broken, read higher
2) new sensor needs to be 'worn in'
3) new sensor is broken, reads lower.
eithier way, yeah, it never dips BELOW 10. its always above that..idk how much of a consolation that is.. (Even when i try to stall it out). cold->~37ish warms up, drops below 20.. at high rpm's its still around 20. not burning much oil, etc etc....

ack. i hope it runs for a few more years.. after that, its eithier sell the body (when the engine craps out)
or build me a sbc..

If you are worried about it, check your oil level. When mine broke, it started spitting out oil and I didn't notice till it was all over my driveway. But on cold start up, mine reads ~60psi, then as it gets warm, it drops to 40psi, and when its at normal operating temp, it idles a bit above 20psi. My old one used to idle warm below 20 though. I don't know, haven't driven her in awhile, damn car is still broken.

Well,. my 2 Camaros would start at about 60 cold idle then drop to 20-30 warm. When the oil got old or low 15 wasn't too uncommon.
The T/A (w/ stupid digital dash) starts off pegged (which first time I started it freaked me out :yikes: ) then slowly comes down to the mid 30's.
My AMC, on the other hand I believe to have a toasted sending unit as one time it reads fine at 15-20 lbs and then out of the blue runs a 5 :( But the sender is probably some 24 yrs old at best and was indtendedn for a dummy light and not a gauge.

hmm it cant be oil level, i made sure it was ok + no leak before i ran it.. its actually 'full' on the dipstick. also, im runnin full synth so maybe thats the reason too.. when i had run conventional before, it used to read a lot higher @ idle then when it was running on synth..idk. x_x ah well, thanks guys, ill update as soon as i know whats up..
