My PS3 Killed it's self.. WTF!!!

So I go out and buy a Sony 40in XBR for my tiny living room last night and got a chance to play with it for 3 hours before trying to boot in Ubuntu, where it hung, reboot and now the red service light just flashes over and over and over when I turn it on.. Seriously, WTF!!

I called sony, they told me that I don't have any warrenty on my Ps3 (over by 5 days) and it'll cost me $149 for a service repacement and the box will come to package my ps3 up in 7-10 days.. When they recieve mine and they will send me one. So it looks like my beautiful new 1080p, 120hz, sony tv with only 32 cable channels will be sitting around collecting fucking dust..

Did you trying raising hell? If that happened to me and I paid 500 dollars for a unit, I wouldn't take it lying down. That is some seriously fucked up shit. $150 dollars for a new unit? Atleast Microcrap extended the warranties and sent you new units for free when their shit dies.

I can't find my recept, If I could prove that I bought the system then I'm sure I could get them to have them take care of it. I'm still looking, but I have no idea where it is..

I called my credit card company and had them give me the exact date, time and $$ amount. I went to wallmart where I bought it and gave them the info and asked for a duplicate recept for my warrenty. It took 20 minuets but at least now it's under warrenty...

Did they actually tell you what was wrong w/ the merchandise? I work for RAC and we get a lot of 360s coming in w/ the "Ring of Death" blinking red. Haven't had many problems w/ the PS3s.

I'm a fool.... This happend happend after having issues booting into my installed Ubuntu Gutsy partition. For some reason it was hangin so I was reinstalling Guysy trying to boot into the install screen after using a cracked Otheros.bld package for the PS3's other boot partion.

As it turned out (for whatever reason) the working otheros.bld dosn't work with my system and my ps3 didn't have a master boot record so it just sat there with a blank screen. After reading a bit more somone mentioned a power on power off sequence to reset the boot sequence, and what do'ya know the sum bich works now. I've been trying for a day to get Gutsy 7.10 to install, but I just cant seem to get past some of these issues, so I installed Feisty 7.04 wich didn't have the updated kernel version to support WIFI so now I'm dowloading all the dependencey so I can update the kernel from a diffrent computer. I'm actually thinking about finding a updated .iso that has the current post firmware 2.01 kernel support. We'll see..
