Some more kills

Most of these took place in the past week or so, just haven't had time to really sort them out for your reading pleasure.

First one up, as expected, raced and took out my buddies IS300 again. It was more of a test run than anything else. We raced when stock, and I beat him by about four lengths from 60-130. In the past month, we've installed a header/y pipe on his car, and he tooled around with the EManage a bit, and I did my cat gut and CAI. Each mod for wach car respectively was supposed to be about a twenty pony gain here and there. We were heading out to a car meet, when we lined up on the high way going around 65-70 to get another test run in.

I honk us down from three, and, as expected, it was the exact same as the first time we raced. I pulled a consistent 3.5-4 cars on him from where we started up to 125, where I let off as we were coming up on some traffic. It wasn't really that much of a surprise really, it was what we both expected to happen. It wasn't as much a hard quick pull, real smooth. However, this time he kept with me a bit longer up to about 80 when I really started moving on him.

Second kill was against what looked to be a 930 Turbo. It was dark, and the car was black, but it was spitting fire (which could mean several things). However, it had the turbo spoiler on it. I was just getting on the highway when I saw it, and my friend wanted me to see if we could race it. It was driving pretty quick, so I got on it, and we played a bit of cat and mouse through some light traffic. Finally got next to it going about 80 in fifth. Coulda been in fourth, but wouldn't have made much a difference.

The driver kept looking over at me, and I kept looking abck at him, but we were both pretty much waiting for the other to honk us down. He finally got on it, and I did the same right about as he did. I got a bit of a jump from 80 up to 100, and by 105, had his nose at my rear wheels. Took it up to 115, no big change, let off at 115 with his front wheels sitting at my rear wheels, according to my friend. I was fairly impressed, even those older P Cars aren't really meant to be fucked with in the big end, and I would think he at least had no cats to be shooting fire like he was. He gave me a thumbs up, and I was trying to get another run with him, but my friend and I were off to see Charlie Wilson's War (two very enthusiastic thumbs up), and he was going the other way.

On the way to the theatre, I tried to get a Prelude to play, but he wasn't into it.

Final kill was against a very nice RSX. I had just dropped off my friend, and was on my way home, same highway I had run the Porsche on earlier. I came up behind an RSX fully badged and done up in the Honda Integra Type R accoutrement, proper wing and all. At first I thought he was just driving slow, till I realized he was actually lined up next to a 350Z. I was more focused on the Z, which sounded like it had an exhaust.

Thats when I realized they were lining up to go. I was about to down shift to fourth when they honked down and took off. I was a bit slow in the shift and getting on the gas, so they were a good four lengths up and moving when I was finally getting on it. By the time I was scooting good, they were about six lengths up, but I was pulling in the Z, and keeping the 'Teg/RSX right where it was. I managed to get up next to the Honda as it was slowing down, and we both dropped down to right about sixty.

If I had to put money on it, I would say the Honda had I/H/E and at least something to handle the ECU. I'm only going on my buddies TSX, where the intake and exhaust would change the volume, but the headers changed the tone. That, and I've raced more than a handful of I/E Type S's, and this didn't sound like just an I/E Type S. I wont go as far to say it had cams.

Anyway, I'm pacing the Honda, and we keep giving it the gas, but the other not biting. Finally, he decided to honk us down. Punch it on the third honk, and I put a quick car length on him from 60 to 80. Starting at 80 and going up to about 110-115, he never really pulled on me, and I put his nose right around my rear bumper. I let off, he flies by and gives me the thumbs up. I was looking for the 350Z, but I couldn't find it behind us. I was really hoping to get a run in with that as well, but seeing as the Honda was pulling on it when I first saw them race, I think it would have been a Win for me. Still, waiting to run a 350Z, and I'm also looking for an SRT4. Once I get the downpipe/midpipe, I'll be looking for an Evo.

Actually, no, torque steer isn't really all that bad. Very manageable, and the addition of an LSD as well as a boost controll program (that can be turned off) keep it very low. Time wise, not sure. People with the same mods as I are running in the mid to low 13s, so I would guess around there.

Jeep...well, someones gotta hold it down, lol.

I actually never made it up there, lol. It was like, I can drive up to Mid-MO and get laid...or I can go to Austin and get laid. I made the judgment call. However, I'm planning on tripping up there sometime late Spring-ish, I will definitely give you a call when I make it up there.

People are getting low 13's with a gutted cat and an intake? Every article I have read about these shows low 14's. Never knew intake and gutted cats took a second off the ET, especially with street tires.

Stock box is uber restrictive. People are getting ten to twelve at the wheels just from hacking up the box. Average CAI dyno is showing damned near twenty wheel horsepower gains. Most with an intake and gutted cat are dynoing around 270 very nice torque gains. There was one guy who had just a hacked up air box and slicks and ran a 12.7. Admittedly, yes, he had slicks, but most of the cars in bone stock form are running a 14.2-14.0, so your still looking at more than a second hacked off. The car is it in her, it just needs to be opened up.

Yeah, on the main Mazda forum I belong to, a guy with a gutted cat and no muffler and CAI running on 15psi (stock boost) put down 268whp and 338ftlbs of torque. Stock, these cars are around 240ish with a decent spread in the torque range, anywhere from 250 to 300, stock. I'm planning on getting mine dyno'd sometime early summer/late spring, once I have the exhaust handled and the fuel pump. Then I'll start upping the boost.
