99 Caravan - panel vents only

I have a 99 Dodge Grand Caravan. Just replaced the heater blower motor only to discover a new problem.
I now get air out of the panel vents only. This seems odd since I thought the default vent in an "error" condition was the defrost vents.
This is what I know:
- The blower is working fine. I get mutliple fan speeds plus hot and cold.
- No matter where I put the vent selector knob I only get air out of the panel vents.
- The rear window defrost, rear window wiper, rear window wash, A/C, and recirculation functions don't work anymore. The LED's that light up inside the button when each is depressed doesn't light anymore.
- When I change the vent selector knob position I hear a faint click under the steering wheel under the dash.
- When I press any of the other function buttons on the climate control panel I hear similar faint clicks under the steering wheel under the dash.
- I have attempted the A/C recalibration sequence I don't get any feedback, I am not sure that any of the signals are getting sent to the control unit.
Does anyone know if the BCM affects the climate control functions? Every reference that I have seen has been to wipers, lights, speedometer, etc.
Does the BCM control the blend doors as well? Is that a potential source of the problem? Doesn't explain the demise of the other functions on the climate control panel but maybe there is more than one thing going on...
Anybody have a clue what the source of the faint click under the steering wheel might be? The clicks absolutely correlate to monkeying with the buttons/knobs in the climate control dash.
Does anyone have experience with the climate control panel to know how likely that the fan speed control selector and temperature slide can continue to work while the other functions on the panel don't work?
There are a smattering of posts in this forum describing the same symptoms but no one has posted the solution.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
