Resleeving the block for turbo

I am considering building up the bottom end on my gsr before slapping on a turbo kit. This will be done by lowering my compression w/ a thicker metal head gasket and/or going w/ 8:1 compression ratio by going w/ JE dished, forged pistons. My question is: how much is the labor for resleeving the block for the pistons? I have one quote of $1600, and this seems pretty outrageous. I only plan on running about 8-9psi of boost, but I know after a while, I'll want more. Also, this is a daily driver and preventative maintenance is the most important thing to me.

Yeah, I would agree. Go get another quote somewhere else, that is pretty steep. I couldn't tell you a figure, but I do that is way too high.
I'll ask around.

The guy that is charging that much is a great mechanic and he really knows his stuff, but $1600 is just out of the question. I'm going to check w/ another very reliable guy who works on a lot of domestics and I know he wouldn't charge me that much.

i say just buy a jg built block, alot easier and i think more cheaper than buying all the otehr parts and paying a shop to do it

I'm gonna look into that, it probably will be a good deal cheaper!

Where can you pick a jg built block up? And what is a good price for it?

The stock sleeves can handle 14, do you want to go more than that?
And 8:1 compression??? Thats way too low! With 9:1 compression you can run 14 PSI on 91 octane pump gas. Atleast get 8.5:1, you can run like 18 PSI on them.
And about the sleeves, does the price include the sleeves, or is it strictly labor?

I heard that lowering compression with a metal headgasket was not good. I heard that the stock OEM head gasket was the best because it is metal too. I would lower compression using pistons not by a head gasket.
