Whats the benifit of getting shocks ???

I never was looking into shocks before until i thought it was blown on my car. Now i want to know whats the benifit of getting them..is it worth it? Right now i'm riding on stocks..... i want a smooth ride of course. Whats the "benifits" and whats a good kind for a good price? :smoker2:

Well picture this. You are going down a hill will brand new set of lowering springs but busted shocks. The hill is bumpy and full of potholes. Your car will just be uncontrollable since every rock will make the car bounce endlessly. The shocks are there to settle the bounce so it will make the car more controllable.
And with some shocks you can dial in more or less rebound or compression (depending on the model). Making the front rebound faster than the rears can make the car handle more neutral (get rid of understeer).

Your springs do load bearing.
Your shocks disapate the spring energy.
They work together in keeping the cars tires glued to the ground.
If the shocks are not there to absorb spring energy, you could have a dangerous situation, when you need to steer out of something.
Meaning if you took a hard turn and the cars 3000lbs rolls onto one side of the car compressing the springs to their full capacity, and there are no shocks there to help rebound the springs and to control the weight transfer all you do is bottom out the suspension, and more importantly, overload the tires which are the only thing keeping you glued to the road.
