I have seen plenty of these resin molded Nascar bodys in model shops and it gets me thinking. Does anybody know how this is done?? Is it something I can do in my home or does it take expenseive machines to make them?? I would love to mold copies of my models after I put a kit on it, then i could save SO much time in making certain kits. Does anybody know how to make the Resin body molds??????????

yes you can make resin copies yourself, but casting an entire kit can get labor intensive especially if you have do alot of 2 part molds. it can be a little expensive starting out but it wont cost you an arm and leg though. heres list of what you need

Polyurethane Resin
RTV Silicone - go with Platinum Cure(1:1), easier to mix. you dont need the strength of a Tin Cure(1:10)
Styrene Sheets - used to build mold box
Klean Klay - for 2 part molds, used to fill voids. its a synthetic clay that wont inhibit the curing of the RTV Silicone.
Mold Release - not really necessary but makes removing castings easier and increases the life of the mold

i think thats pretty much all the essential items you need. heres an article on resin casting

also on a side note, dont mix the Polyurethane with a wooden stick, the stick have enough moisture to cause the the resin mixture to bubble.
