Serious problem

guys had a horrible day. me and my brother were in my 99 gs and blew a spark plug completely out of the engine. where the plug is screwed in is completely stripped out. can any1 tell me about what it will cost to get this fixed and what all will be involved?

Alright, the threaded area where the spark plug screws in is actually part of the cylinder head. So if it's like you say it is and completely stripped you have two choices.

First, you can buy a new cylinder head and swap it out with your old one, a couple day job to do by yourself, not sure how much a shop will charge, but I imagine it isn't real cheap.

Second, you can take your car to a shop and see if they feel comfortable re-tapping the head for a plug one size bigger. That should be quick and easy if they will do it with the head on the car, but you really wouldn't want all those metal filings falling into the combustion chamber so they might reccommend pulling the head to tap it.

If you have to pull the head to tap it, I would buy another one for cheap and just swap them.

I would suggest that you take the car to a dealership or shop and double check that it is the head and not the plug that is overly worn. I can't imagine why that would happen on a 3 year old car when there are cars running around 3 times that age with the same engine and having no adverse wear problems. I have had spark plugs just back out of the hole on me before and when the finally let loose it sounds like they blow out. All you have to do at worst is replace the plug.

So just have someone double check before you do anything drastic.

yeah basically what we did was re tap the hole i was at work so my moms bf did it for me. im worried about the shavings and he doesnt seem to be. any opinions?
