I have a 2002 z24 and i am having a problem the car has 7000 miles and i can put it in all gears(reverse Nuetral ETC!) but when i drive the car in DRIVE it acts as if i am driving with shifter in gear 2 or 1which is for going up and down hills its a automatic..it does not go into any other gears the rpms just keep going up ...any ideas would be very helpfull thanks!!!

Hmmm.. When you slide the shifter down do you count the "clicks"?? Just a thought because sometimes the indicator says it's in a different gear then you're actually in. If you count three clicks you're in the right gear. I know that's stupid... but it's a possibility.

My only other thoughts are that 1. your TCC solenoid in the tranny isn't locking onto the driveshaft like it should (cheap and easy), or 2. your tranny is just faulty and your top gear is out(expensive).

Wish I could help more...

You could have other issues going on with the car that made it default into what they call safe mode. Best thing to do is take it to the dealer before anything gets damaged.

I'm not sure if the Cav's have this feature but alot of the electronic transmissions have a default feature that will not allow certain things to happen if it sees a problem elsewhere. I don't do automatic trans' but I see alot of trucks default to third gear when an electrical portion goes south. These transmissions use several shift solenoids, pressure solenoids, tcc soleonoids and fluid temp solenoids to achieve everything. It only takes one false reading to give a strange result.
