What do you guys think? A buddy has an IS300 and is pretty confident he can take an 01 Max. HP is pretty similar (215 vs 227) but the Lexus is a smaller car.

i think the manual will have no problem, the auto would be close.

I've seen many post on the org that state the Maxima will win that race auto or stick hands down.

an IS300??? muhahahaha....
i race the IS300s to get my car warmed up in the morning...:D
ok...maybe i got a little carried away there...IS300s are nice cars..i hope the new 5speed version of the IS300 is more close match-up than the auto counterpart...

I know someone who is Running an IS300. The same day we both decide to get 75 shot NOS systems. He has some UR Pully but no exhaust work, he has a Stillen intake. I am running a full exhuast, Stillen Y, Random Tech Cat, Greddy Cat-back and Stillen intake. We are both auto's. Should I be able to take him?

I drove an IS300 but it is no BMW !

A Maxima (4th-5th Gen) is a bit quicker. A 5-speed Max will walk it like a dog....

uh.. a 4th gen like '97 should have a tough time beating an IS300. The IS is 0-60 in low 7s right? and the Maxima (auto) is 0-60 in high 7s
The new Maxima should beat it though
BUT watch out for the 5spd IS!!!!!

Careful, they say that a supra turbo fits. I've seen it done here in Chicago. She has more in store than most think.

the IS300 uses the Supra N/A engine, so you could most likely swap in a Supra TT engine, that would be nice
or slap a turbo on it, that's a really good engine

I'm saying Maxima'01 over a IS300 '01 simply cause the horsepower issue weather it be auto or manual Max. but in the '02 with the IS300 stick sorry the IS might just be able to take off

Maxima is faster,.

well the maxima SE has 255hp, goes 0-60mph in the high 6s i think
the IS300 has 215hp, and also does 0-60mph in the high 6s

I think the IS is lighter, and it's looks sportier to me... the max is too family carish for me

plus since it uses the supra N/A engine, it has sooooo many mod possibilities

The 0 to 60 time for the IS 300 is hight 7's and the

02 Maxima with automatic should be mid or high 6's.

The 02 Maxima SE 6 -Speed will beat the IS bad.

I know my 98 auto Maxima will beat the IS too.:)

uh my number was right off the lexus website..... 0-60mph in 6.8s
that isn't high 7s that's high 6s

and that's with 40hp less than the maxima

could be cause mine was the 5 spd. time?
but didn't the auto do low 7s?

but still the IS has 40hp less, so the maxima should be faster

I didnt know you were talking about the new 5-speed.

Your probably right on the 5-speed times , they may be

faster , anyway according to car and driver the 0 to 60

times was 7.6. The only thing I was thinking about is that

it seems like the IS should of been a little faster than it was

considering its size and its horsepower. It is a sweet little

machine, I must admit though.:D

every magazine that i have read up on about the new 5 speed IS, its not much faster then its automatic sibling. plus from what i've read, the ratio on the tranny is extremely open. therefore when it shifts it pretty much throws it out of its powerband and it has to start over again. why did they even do such a thing i have no clue:rolleyes:
