hey everyone,
Im using my RC in a science fair competition in 2 weeks. I was wondering for all the RC enthusiast out there, do u have any ideas on what i can test out and do some research on. I prefer to have it relate to the exhaust pipes. Right now im going to do the project on whether the loudness of the pipe have a correlation with its power. So i went out to buy a tuned pipe and im comparing it to the stock mufffler. I have a decibel meter to help aid this experiment. But this seems plain by itself. So does anyone have any suggestions on what i can test or u would liek me to test? I wanted to do sumthing like cut the pipe to different lengths and see how that affects the performance or do one with like sound and using that to determine the RPM since the combustion is want causes the sound. So if anyone out there can help me out. I really appreciate it. thanxs~JSizzle

You don't really have to cut the pipe to adjust performance. Changing the gap between the pipe and the manifold does that. Can't remember what it does exactly at the moment, have to look it up later. Taking the baffle, if the pipe has one, out changes things besides sounds levels as well. I've seen articles on how the shape of the pipe changes performance as well. I think the info is on www.rccaraction.com . If not, they have published a ouple of books with the info in it.
The shape of the exhast manifold also changes perfomance, hence why people through away the stock manifolds that come with the RS4s. The engine performs better if the exhaust gases have a flowing path to the pipe instead of coming out, hitting a "wall", and then being forced 90 degrees towards the pipe.
