SR20DET engine swap into se-r spev...

I can actually pic up on of these engines relitively cheap. Has anyone done this engine swap or considered it. The Se sentra has a SR20de engine, so the only problem I can think of would be the rear wheel drive...?

yes you can swap a det into a spec-v, the rearwheel drive is not an issue, because you simply cannot put a rwd det into a fwd car, but the bluebird in Japan is awd, and comes with the det, so that is the engine most use for the swap. I don't know of any spec-v's that have done it, but there are several 01 se's that have and I've heard it really isn't hard. If you want any more info you can PM Trav4011 over at b15sentra.net, or go to his webpage at www.forcedinductionracing.com

2.0 liters.

Maybe he got the spec-v for the looks, suspension, hlsd, interior, 6-spd, need I go on? Theres much more to the spec-v than the engine, and maybe you don't know much about the performance of the sr20det, but the qr25 pales in comparison.

maybe something about a 210 stock hp severely overbuilt turbo 2L easily capable of making 400whp with NO internal modifications tickles his fancy....

so if he bought the Spec for the HLSD and 6 speed...........that's USELESS with a DET swap. Apparently you don't know that, do you?

That swap would cost a MINIMUM of $5000, maybe just 5000 in parts alone, labor would be insane. You're talking new motor mount locations, new tranny, ALL new wiring, new gauge faces, new tranny linkage, exhaust system, etc, etc, etc, etc.

just because the engine can be had for less than 2000 doesn't mean it's a viable, nor intelligent swap.

Yes, I agree the DET is a MUCH better engine.............yet, if you bought a Spec V knowing this.....that's your fault. The Spec V is a good engine.

Invest in the bolt ons. Header, intake, exhaust, and more will be coming very shortly. www.forcedinductionracing.com makes turbo kits for the Spec V right now. You might want to contact him, he's VERY knowledgeable on the Spec V.

I completely forgot about that...good point

So really the only advantage to getting the spec-v would be the suspension (which will probably be changed anyway), interior and front bumper

I've got a customer doing an SR20DET swap into his Spec V up in Illinois. This is no ordinary DET.. it's going to be a 400whp monster. :)

heh no prob, don't worry about it. I don't ever take what people say online personally, too much crap is floating around everywhere to do that.

i have a friend that did the swap. yes he did have to buy a $6000 part to hook up the 6speed tranny to the engine, but he did it. he built all the motor mounts, all the wiring and everything else himself. money is really no concern to my him. he ran into a few problems, but the main one is that he had no traction. but once it hooks up, that thing flies. everyone has good points in this thread. i know i would never put that much money and time into something so crazy. if your happy then who cares.
