Alex has it on his phone. I can't call him at work because he works in a small office and they are always busy. So if I need to tell him something NOW before I forget I just buzz him a quick message. I used to have it on mine (we are both with Squint...I mean Sprint PCS) but I changed my plan to basic with caller ID/voicemail....saved me $30/month.

sometimes its handy...as people can't receive calls when their at work etc...and also when you call someone you usually forget what your gonna say half the time...

plus sms is cheaper then calling usually.

I tend not to notice the expenses. I just think text messaging is far too anti social :D

nah..don't care about the expenses either...its more a thing of convenience than anything else....

besides it becomes more like a battle of wits at times when sending txt lol...

Now all I need is to get a phone with MMS and be able to send real picture msgs.

Depends on who you are talking to,I guess.I could use text messaging to pass messages on to my wife, but if it's someone that I like,I'd much rather talk to them.

Ive got text messaging, but I think I have only used it once. Not many ppl use it here, and most of my friends dont even have a cell.

This brings me to my point of: If you can't leave the internet "at home" then you've got problems.

The whole sending of pictures over the phone is just too much. Text messaging... yeah, I receive them, but my phone is crap and usually won't let me send them back. Besides, if I am thinking of something and I need to tell someone, why don't I call them at that moment? How is taking 30 secs for a phone call any different than 30 secs to type out a TM? So you ask, well, what if their phone is off? Well, they can retrieve VM's just as easily as TM's, right?

Well, if its something quick, then a text message is cheaper than using your rate minutes. Hell, I get 1500 TM's for $3. I get 600 peak talk minutes for $30. See the difference? Also, if someone needs to get a hold of me at work, the TM me what they need. If they leave a voicemail, then I have to run off and check it to make sure it's nothing too important, etc.

Also, have a web enabled phone, does come in handy. I use mapquest quite often when out on the road, accessable through my phone. Little things like that are nice. But is it needed? No, not really. It's just a convienance. Just like the microwave, the fridge, etc. etc.

Gotta agree with Kris on that one.

I've used WAP before, when I didn't have internet connection at home to check my emails...but no longer use it as I have internet at home now.

I'm not going to die if I don't have MMS. It's just handy having a phone that can take photos instantly..especially if you don't have a normal camera about....you don't need to develop it...etc

Over in Oz...technology is quite good...and we are one of the nations with a high number of mobile users compared to population.

i didnt know that Australia was the top i thought it was the UK?? ah whatever but anyway..i think that cameras on fones is going a little too far..specially when (some) services are like 100 bucks a month!!!??? why would anyone pay that outragous amount just to take pictures and use a really ugly fone. but hey..whatever floats ya boat!

and to Jimster...dont you think that waiting till you get home to call someone and not knowing if they need you is more anti social than texting them :finger: :p :D

I didn't say we were the top :p

100 bucks...lol...that's a bit much....

it only costs 75c to send a PXT msg here lol. There's new phones on the market coming out soon, which are smaller and look better.

The phones are a decent price for having colour screens etc. Just think back the 8810, and 8850 were around the $1000 mark and remained that price for years after they were released...and they had no features.

Not that I'm going to go buy one...cause I have a phone that does what it needs atm... :D
