:confused: I WAS WONDERING IF THESE CARS SHARE THE SAME PLATFORM....AND THE UTE. I OWN A 2002 MULIBU HERE IN THE STATES, AND A 1998 MALIBU(WRECKED) I'M GOING TO PLAY WITH THE WRECK, AND I WANT AN ELCOMINO (UTE) TYPE CAR. IF ANY ONE CAN HELP ME WITH THIS.......THANX

chassis- no


And whether Commodore/Malibu parts are compatable is a whole other story- turning an obsolete Malibu into a ute isn't a wise investmetnt especially with all the hoo-haa of the Commodore ute coming into the US.

The Chevrolet Malibu and the Holden Commodore do NOT share a platform. I doubt they share any major components. The Commodore is based on the Opel-designed V-Body platform and the Malibu is on the US-designed P90/N-Body platform. The former (V-Body) is RWD and the latter (P90) is FWD.

THE CAR IS TRASHED ANYWAY, AND I'M DOING MOST (90%) OF THE WORK MYSELF....AND I HATE WAITING. BESIDES THAT, EVERY YUPPIE, OLD TIME HOTRODDER WILL WANT I AND DRIVE THE PRICE WAY UP.

huh...really? A reliable source told me the Malibu is based off the Omega- and I always tthought the Malibu was RWD- either way the Malibu is a hunk of crap- there are much wiser investments you could put it towards

Sorry. Your reliable source misspoke. The Malibu has been FWD ever since they revived the name in 1997.

I thought by saying "I doubt they share any major components" you would get the point that they're not related. The only way that the two vehicles are related is that they are both built by General Motors. Physically, the Malibu and the Commodore have nothing in common. Mechanically, the Malibu is FWD and uses a 60-degree Chevrolet-designed V6 while the Commodore is RWD and uses either the Buick-designed 90-degree V6 or the Chevrolet-based small-block V8. The two vehicles are not related. They are NOT "basically the same car."

In Australia we have the Maloo this is the hsv version of the ute.
The commodore is the passenger vehicle version of the same car, the ute is built on the station wagon commodore floor pan, they share the same driveline and suspension package
hsv = Holden Special Vehicles.
