My car went to the shop 4 months ago after it wouldnt start cause the timing belt had slipped and they replaced all the needed stuff. The other day it does the same thing only 5000 miles later so the car goes back, they say it jumped 3 teeth on the rear cam and that it is slipping off the cam gear. They are redoing the entire thing like the first time but the mechanic doesnt want to put it back together untill he knows whats wrong. Both times i was previously driving it around fine came home shut it off, went to start it later and it wouldn't... Any suggestions?

If the timing belt is not installed right it will jump.

It sounds like you need to find a competent mechanic.

Make sure you're not paying for the fix. DOHC engines have to have the cam sprockets, timing belt, etc all alligned perfectly. I've seen cars with the timing belt misalligned by 1 tooth that needed engine rebuilds because of it. Get your money back from this guy, go somewhere where they know what they are doing.

Thanks guys. They fixed my car for free. They replaced everything that they did the first time and found the problem. Something was wrong with the grenade it wasnt working properly but now it runs fine. Lets hope this time it lasts a little longer than 5000 miles. By the way the mechanic I took it to is supposedly the best in town, but from now on im takeing my buiseness to mitsu.

For what it's worth... the BEST import mechanic in my town freely admitted that they, nor anyone else in Milwaukee, could compitently work on VR4s. :-) What luck.
