Wow!!! Where do you keep all those!:eek:

That's quite a collection...especially notable are the Peugeot 607 (those are amazing), the BMW, and the classic Mustang.

Perhaps you could answer this, I've been wondering for a while...In North America, there was a special SVT version of the Ford Contour (Mondeo) with 200 hp. Did Ford ever offer 200hp in the Mondeo anywhere besides North America?

Anyways, welcome to AF! I'm sure you can share a lot of knowledge about the cars in your collection and many others. Also, you will find several other New Zealanders on the boards, you're not alone :D

Hey Heep
Thanks, my BMW is my favorite, I feel lucky that I still have it after I got rear-ended in a classic car race (Which Car & Driver were paticipating in a Saab 95 or 96 I can't quite remember)
My Peugeot is a business car and the Mustang is something handed down from my grandfather.

I have the 2002 and Mustang in storage up in Auckland, the Prelude at my bach, the Coupe sits in the garage, The Peugeot in front of the 1st garage door, the Courier that goes in front on the lawn, the Mondeo is in the other side of the garage and the Yugo sits on the Curb with the keys in the ignition, the Renault (Which is pretty much my fiancee's car) is parked behind the second garage door, the 'Yota is currently helping a mate out down on his farm (But usually is put in the shed and the XR8 is my Wellington car (Used a lot by my cousin though)- lol- well you did ask me where I keep them all

About your ride......That Escort is identical to the Japan/NZ made Laser which is identical to the Mazda 323 of its time.

The Contour did not make it out of NA to my knowledge becaus the ones made for Asia, Europe, Australia and NZ come from a Belgian factory not a US one.

Yes indeed...only problem is that North America was never offered either Turbo or AWD like the Lasers....:(

I believe C&D had a 96. With the rad on the firewall!! :smoka:

Have you seen the article, it is quite funny. I will look for your car later. Thats neat though.

What type of job do you have?? You should add a Mini to your ranks, they are so fun to drive:cool:

Hey Chris
I am a junior Executive at ASB back, and work as a chartered Accountant.
I have been thinking about getting an early 90's model Mini Cooper, which would give me a good excuse to get rid of the Yugo which refuses to die.

Later Jimmy

Must be quite a shock getting out of the 607 and hopping into the Yugo....:D

I don't think I have driven the Yugo in 3 years!!!!!!

why don't you sell all of them and buy 1 or 2 more exotic cars?

Yep, over here in England we have the ST-24 and the ST200, speaking of Ford has anyone seen the Ford World Rally Tranist Van ?

Actually, the newer minis arent much better than the older ones. In some cases, they are worse!!! I would recommend a 60's era Mini Cooper, a Cooper S if you can find one for a good price.

I could never sell any of these cars (Except the Yugo) because we have been through a lot together, plus they are better (In my opinion) than any exotic car (except maybe the 996 911 Turbo)
Chris:
A 60's Mini Cooper is a bit out of reach (They fetch $20,000 upwards) but a mid 90's one could go for about $5,000, plus insurance would be cheaper for a 90's model

Whats the exchange rate between Canada and New Zealand??? I know that Mini Cooper S' can fetch a lot, but there are deals to be found. My views are also influenced by the fact that there are very few mini's here, and almost all of them are old.

what's so good about a mini?

Heep

They are fun to drive, attract a lot of attention, quick, reasonably well built, practical, lets not forget the "Pulling the birds" factor.
After all we can't all drive a BMW

gang$tarr
10-13-2001, 06:41 PM
but they're soo small
LOL they look like i could accidentally step on one of them :D :D
they don't look very comfortable either

and if you drive a new mini than that is a bmw :)

Jimster
10-13-2001, 07:14 PM
they are as a matetr of fact very comfortable, according to my Mother (Shes 6"2 and owned one in the 80's) and I like the way that they are so small, even if a Ford Excursion could make it into a pancake, but thats OK because the Excursion is not available here, 4WD's don't get much bigger than an Explorer

6'2'' :eek2: :eek2: holy shit!

that's one tall lady

Chris
10-13-2001, 07:46 PM
I have read an article by someone who is 6'5, and he found it good, but not much head room left, and the steering wheel rubbed his leg. So get a nice momo, that would fix that. (He also found it the most fun thing he has ever driven, better than BMW's, porsches, and a few Italian cars that end it i)
Lets not forget that they won the Monte Carlo rally outright 3 (three!) times, beating cars with much more power.
I also like the 'smallness', it lets you drive it as if it were an extension of yourself, like a third hand.

I have an official picture of what goes into a mini, I will post it later. Its 5 people with luggage:)

I want this to be my first car, if I can find one for a reasonable price!

Hey Jimmy

I reckon you should add an original Audi Quattro Coupe to your collection
as I see you have basically nothing in the way of 4WD cars
:smoker2:

Chris
10-13-2001, 08:17 PM
Aren't those kinda pricy, but awesome. If you had Audi 5000's over there, they might be a good price, after the 'unintended acceleration' garbage in the 80's.

Some overweight dumbasses forget what was the brake and what was the gas, so they blamed it on Audi. Geez:(

You should see the December 1999 issue of Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson wrote a real funny column relating to the Audi incedents of the 80's

Later Jimmy Hey, there's a Mini Cooper in my town that has a few problems, I think they want $7,000 for it, the body and paint is in pretty good shape though. If you want, I could check up on it for you.
