Y are oval races held in the anticlockwise direction?
There was once my PE teacher told me that in running tracks, the running direction (anticlockwise) is due to the orientation of the human heart. Does this thoery apply to motor racing as well?

The heart's in the middle of the body....
And they turn left, so as long as you're looking from above they run counterclockwise.

It's all about centrifical acceleration. Do to the way V-8's rotate the car's centrifical acceleration allows it to turn better left than right.

I heard it was because the Britsh used to run thier Oval race's in a clockwise direction, and so the Americans run them anti clockwise so they are not seen to be copying the Brits. (something about a war of indepandance or something?)
Forunatly the Britsh like the rest of the world have moved on from oval track racing and have advanced thier automovtive technology to the point where thier cars can now turn both left and right, and so thier race tracks have now have corners which also go left or right.
The cars are able to "change direction" they call it handling.

It has alot to do with safety. If you are refering to NASCAR it's has alot to do with safety. The side furthest away from the drivers seat is the side closest to the wall.

I think two of the races are in the other direction!

and even when they turn to the right, it is the most boring thing in the world. Yes, even more so than golf.

WOW look at that... not in the middle off to the left! http://www.innerbody.com/image/chest1.html
do you ever wonder why when you go to the doctors they put the stethascope on the left side of your chest and not the center line of your rib cage?
