Valentine's day-love it or hate it?

I can't stand Valentine's day. Maybe cause' I ain't got no one. I'm serious, I've never had a decent Valentine's day. The only year I had someone kinda(01'), she got mad at me for buyin' her a gift. Just for the simple fact that she hated Valentine's. Like I was just supposed to know that! :mad:
I hate this holiday & will be glad when it's over...

Its a Holiday just to let you know how lonely you really are and then suicide cuts down the population its all one big government conspiracy

It's an okay day, however if you really love someone, you don;t need to wait til Feb 14 to show it. To me personally, V-Day is over-commercialized and benefits only chocolatiers, jewelers, hotels, and fancy restaurants. It's the day that Alex and I got engaged a few years ago, but that's the only significance it has for me.

For those of you who aren't with someone, realize this: it's better than being stuck with someone who treats you like crap, doesn't really care, or is selfish. I can't fathom why people let themselves get stuck with people who all they want is to receive and not give anything in return.

One year (about 10 years ago or so) I was dating someone else. I looked forward to FINALLY having someone for V-Day. When that day came, I was wishing I wasn't wasting my time with that person. I hdd gotten him a pretty decent gift. He didn't call me not did I see him on that day. I sat at home all day waiting for the phone to ring or for SOMETHING to happen....a bug landing on the wall...anything. The next day I found a wilted carnation with a Looney Toon card signed "Guess who?" stuck on the front fence :rolleyes: I guess he decided to pay a visit at 2 a.m. or something. I went and returned the gift as soon as the store opened :devil:

Okay, so I'm going to go with Kat on this for the most part. It can serve as a cool launching point for a relationship, but at the same time it can be just another worthless excuse for Hallmark to rape you of every dollar you have.

I guess I'm mostly against it, but it is an okay day if you have a Valentine.

Valentines day sucks and is ok at the same time but if you dont have a g.f/b.f then it is just gona suck period. reson it is ok after the guys spends the money on the girl he is gitting a lot of lovin from her that night.

Its just another day to the wife and I. Hallmark and you local florist really wants everyone to get into it, but its just not for us.

I hate valentines day. Worst Frikkin holiday ever, IMO. As Yogs said, its just a day thats pushed by florists and hallmark, and other businesses to increase sales.

Its not actually that big of a deal to me directly, since im not dating, and not asking anyone out on the day, etc. But my friends who are dating are forced to shell out on flowers, etc, etc. Most chicks (not all) expect to get stuff from there significant other on this day. And if you dont get them something, then you might as well get ready for dumpsville (or atleast a long period of awkwardness)

I also get tired of seeing the damn ads for this day all over the tv and the radio. Get this, buy that, dimond rings, flowers, dinner, etc....

Sometime you have to just settle for the way the cards fall.Can't say that I'll be doing a big deal on the day,there's just too much cynicism about the whole"affection-to-order"mentality of V-day.

This year it really sux..it will be the first valentines (unless a miracle happens) that i spend V-day alone in ...4 years :( but the plus side is i dont need to go buy 50 bucks worth of flowers and candy and then take my girl out to dinner. i miss her tho : puts on flame proof suit:

i'll (most likely) be single on it this year, but even when i have had girlfriends on Valentines day, they didn't want to do anything special (and yes i asked them). so i won't make anything of it unless the girl wants me to.

teh Valentine's Day suxXors!!!:angryfire I have someone but I think it's a poor excuse to get people to spend money and it's not fair to those that are alone involuntarily; I remember that horrible feeling all too well:( Sweetest Day is a buncha crap too!:mad:

But back on topic...I never particularly cared one way or another about Valentines. It's my parents' anniversary also...and since I was born on their first, it was 20 years before they ever got to celebrate. So actual Valentines day was always 3rd on the list in my family, behind my b-day and my parents.

In our house it's just another day :p

This is so true. What really kills me is that my girlfriend's birthday is on the 7th of Feb. So naturally I want to combine the two days into one big joyous day (that did not go over well with her). I got her a necklace from Tiffany's to go along with the bracelet she got last year (go figure). You would think she would be happy but no, of course not. Last night while watching TV I got the "so what are we doing for Valentines Day???"

I am thinking to myself "nothing I hope".

It really is a bad time of year. I mean you have Christmas, which takes like two months to recover from financially. Then you have her birthday which takes at least one good solid pay period to recover from. And then low a behold you have this overated, third tier holiday that you shell out the little stash you had saved up for a weekend with he fellas or a new set of brake lines for the bike.

Well, I can't stand Valentines day myself... it's usually a big disappointment for one reason or the other, and this year is apparently no different from all the others... Just found out that as of March 14th, I won't have a job anymore. Oh well... severance package = car parts.

I really don't care, just another day to me. Perhaps I will give a rat's ass when I have someone to share it with.

It depends on the circumstances, take this year for example, I am happy because tomorrow at my school, there will be a formal dance for valentines, and I actually have a very lovely girl to go with with to this occasion, as well as treat to dinner prior to. Last year, I had no one. It varies I suppose.

I don't know why they deem this day a holiday. You could do the same shit for your anyday. What makes this day so special? I can't talk though I took my chick out last night and spent major $$$$$, oh well:rolleyes:

when I'm alone, I hate it. when I have somebody, then I love it. this year I loved it
