Hey this is the new kit i got.. a Revell Ram VTS Pickup, and i plan to slam it, try to find some bigger rubber n wheels, there is alot of cracks in this kit that i found so im going to have to get some putty.
Any suggestions?
Now the first thing i wanted to do with this kit in the limited time i had is slam it, that way ill have some motivation to make the rest. So i set up the frame so i can see ride hight and figure out how much it needs to be lowered
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/572606Mvc-697s.jpg
Sorry for the blurryness.. so anyways i will have more once i get the rear axle together and slam it

wohooo i finaly got off the wheel mounts... and got rear axle on.. the only problem is that there is no way to slam the ass end any more unless i cut out the bed which can be done but i dont want to right now. now all i need to do is make some spacers to slam this thing... i cut my self in total about 7 times, the harshest one was in the chest(holding suspension near me and xacto slipped) but oh well it comes with crafting
Here are pics of them cut

7 times? Did you use a sharp enough blade, and did you use something like a table to hold it down?

lol most of them are just little slices but the one in the chest is still bleeding, it was just hard because it gave you two angles two cut from and they both sucked
Thnx Vric for the support and for the instructions but how did you slam the back end?

ok here is the back's final ride hight.. its as low as it can go with out hackin it up
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/318194Mvc-698s.jpg
So im just going to lower frunt a little more than the back and it should give it a good muscle truck look.. what you think?

Looks good, the stance looks similar to this.

If you resort to hackin up the back, a c-notch rig is an awesome way to leave a tasteful gap in the bed. :D

You plan on adding aftermarket wheels and tires? In most cases, a slimmer, larger wheel tire is easier to tuck and give a better stance. Hoppin Hydro's probably makes what you're looking for. Aoshima also makes large wheels, but in my experiences they are too wide for trucks.
Diesel2NR
02-11-2003, 06:23 AM
You can go with a bigger tire, but you'll have to change the wheel well. You can cut that on out and then use the inside of a spray can lid. cut it in had, glue it in place, and then do a little putty work around it to smooth everything out, and that's that. Hope that will help you out.

It's okay to cut the wheel wells.
Have you seen some of the ITRs on AF. They've totally cut the wheel wells and the tires are visible.
DO your best on this one, it will be COOL.

Dont take this the wrong way, but do you read truck magazines? Truckin, Street Truckin, Mini Truckin any of these sorts of magazines?
Its verry common practice for a Trucker especially on full size trucks to remove the inner fenders for clearance. I would recommend you pick up a copy of one of these rags, it will lend you lots of good ideas.

Whiz, I was about to ask the same question. There's plenty of sites out there with reference pics for lowered trucks. sportruck.com has some great rides, but they only occasionally show the suspension work done to the rides.
The interior of your ride should not be affected by the work you've done so far. What's the problem? If you were to attempt to do a body drop (so that the body is sitting on the grond too), you would have interior problems.
As for the front wheelwells, I say hack them off, as well as some of the vertical part that attaches to the fenders under the hood. The front of the body should be supported at the front of the frame near the radiator anyways, so the loss of some structural integrity is not a problem. If you want to have the tires covered, you could fabricate some inner wheelwells from sheet aluminum or styrene.

i chopped of the front wheel wells and it is very unstable, but my worry is that right now when i put frame under bod, the frame just goes where ever it wants because the wells acted as a guide for the body to fit snug on the frame... you know what i mean, im hoping some of the parts that i put on will hold it together

k seriously i need help.. my thing is that i have the rear done fine but the frunt will not lower because of the wheel wells beingin the way but i dont mean outer wheel wells i mean the outside ones so if i were to cut them you could see thru, so i was thinking bringing the frunt tires in so that they will fit in engine bay so i did a little but it doesnt help and im going to have to shove them in alot more if i want to make a difference but the only prob is that it will look kind of funny if the frunt tires are tucked way in and the back tires are in normal positiion? then i thought about wide body(heating it up and just pushing the fenders out) but then id have to do that to the back.. PLS HELP ME
RAAAAWWWWWWWWWWRRRRRR ok i did some more work on it(heating up fenders and widening them up) and some other stuff but now the frunt bumber has noowhere to sit, it has nice ride hight but i dont think i can get interior in jow because i put the body and frame closer together SO GOD DAMIT i think i trashed this project.. if i just had SOME MORE HELP

That looks great. I've noticed that a lot of dropped (air bag suspension) trucks tend to have a BIG camber problem on the front end when in the low position, so it appears that the tires are leaning against the engine. I say go for the look you've got there and it'll be awesome.

The first picture in your last post looks just right, why do you want to go lower than that? Don't do any heating/stretching, that's just waaaay too ghetto. If you do that, I will be forced to never read any of your posts again. :bloated:
As for the interior, install it normally. Sure, it might be a little higher than you want it, but it'll save you a lot of work. Next time you want a really low ride, build a slammer. No interior, blacked out windows, no engine, no chassis. Basically just the body and wheels, with some kind of floorpan to hold it all together.

y not black out the windows on this ram?
Sidewinder-03
02-12-2003, 05:35 PM
I may have a solution for ya,but it involves alot of cutting.Take your interior bucket and figure out how much it sits higher than normal.Cut the bottom of the int. tub from the side panels(I use a razor saw but a fine toothed hacksaw blade may work).Measure the distance up from the bottom of the sides and cut again.Smooth out your cuts with a file or sandpaper wrapped around a block of wood. Then glue the floorboard back to the side panels.Don't forget to lower your seats too as they will sit higher.Acurate measurements and precise cutting is necessary so measure twice and cut once.
If all that fails just black out the windows and glue the hood shut and finish that bad boy and save the spare parts for something else. You are doing a great job.Keep it up and don't give up as I want to see this done.HTH.
P.S.......ROCK ON!!!!!:ylsuper :ylsuper

No prob.As for the side windows you can use clear styrene sheet or the cover from a clear report cover(I'm useing the plastic "glass" from a picture I won at the fair last summer to make headlight covers for my Buick GN since I lost 2 headlights while moving to my new work space).Take An index card and trace out a pattern of the side windows useing the side window opening as a referance.Add about 3mm to the pattern and tape the card to you work bench. Now tape the sheet plastic over the pattern and carefully cut out your windows.Regular model glue won't work with the clear sheet unless it's styrene,so attach it with 5-min. epoxy or clear parts cement.HTH

Lookin good, I suggest you put the pumps and batteries out of your El Camino in it! You can also cover that hole in the tray with plastic sheet to make a phat sub box, if you want. Just a suggestion that would make it look alot better then a huge hole. Paint suggestion: purple, white flames, gold undercarriage with white and tan interior, I think that would be a more modern color scheme, but i'm not good with those, so if it sounds like shit then you can understand!
