call a local locksmith, he can come out, and make you a new key for about 25.00
as far as the dealer thing...its highly doubtful they would do that, because ignition switches go out......so it could have been replaced, and even if they do, it would cost mad money, plus i seriously doubt they have EVERY single key grind in there system

keys are cheap at the dealer. I used to work in a Honda parts dept.
You can get a key cut for about $10.00(that's what we charged)
And yes, all you need is your VIN# and proof of ownership.
If you want to get something different you can have a 94-97 Accord key cut too, it will work in you Civic. I had an Accord key cut for my Integra when I had it. If you have a hard time getting factory keys let me know and I can get you some keys, Cheap. I like the factory key cause it says HONDA on it. No offense to slammed civic but the lock smoth won't have these keys.

wasn't trying to say that your locksmith solution was a bad idea, I was just saying that the dealer key won't cost him an arm & leg.
and that he could get one at the dealer no problem.
sorry.

Just grab them at the dealer. They're not expensive.
