daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn that looks hella tight!:bandit: the only thing left is the seats?

civic98stunna
02-08-2003, 05:49 PM
well, more than that. I'm gonna do the carpets, at least the floormats, and the pillar covers, and hopefully the plastic on the bottom edge of the door openings, and the kickpanels in the corners below the dash...and i'm not sure what else yet. btw, thanx for the compliment!

o0o0o0o purty.....how long did it take?

civic98stunna
02-09-2003, 04:15 AM
well, i can't really give even a close estimate of how long it took, because lots of things slowed me up, like having to reorder the dye online all the time, plus i had school, work, yada yada yada. I could have done it a lot sooner without those distractions, but overall it took me about..... 3 months....? i actually did the door panels first as testers because i had never done anything like this b4, then i waited almost a month before i started painting anything else.

This is cool ive got a few questions.
How much money do you save by doing this yourself as oposed to a shop?
How much did the materials cost?
And what are some of the bad things that happen when you take when you do it yourself?

And where did you learn how to do this?

One more :alien:
Did you have to strip the car down before you did all of that?

Again though good job!

Yo man ive been waiting for you to post your pics. Shoot man that looks really sick. Im just waiting for approval from a certain person b4 I order the dye from G2. How many cans did u need for all the vinyl parts? Your interior is lookin TIGHT already I cant wait to see it finished. Try and get a white or red steering wheel cover just to make it look alittle nicer:). PM me with all the details bout what you used and what to avoid when I do it.

Keep up the sick interior work:cool:

voodoo, i estimate that i'm saving at least a grand, if not more, by doing the work myself. Material costs were just the dye/paint (varies, depends on how much you use, but i estimate i paid around 100 dollars cause i had to pay for shipping each time i ordered the dye) and then the cloth that i put on the door armrests and center console armrest, that was like 5 bucks. Bad things that happen...well, if you're not careful, the paint will run. If you don't tape things off REALLY well, you'll get overspray on things you don't want to be painted...umm, little flaws show up no matter how hard you try to do it perfectly, guess thats just the nature of DIY. But, it also feels very gratifying to know you did this all yourself. I didn't learn how to do this anywhere, i just took off my door panels one day and tried it, and luckily it worked! I recommend if you're going to paint the full interior like i did, start with the door panel vinyl. if you mess up, a new door panel can't be that much at a junk yard. No, i didn't have to strip the car down. I just took individual pieces out at a time that i wanted to paint. I painted the dashboard itself while it was in the car. I just taped off EVERYTHING very carefully, and went at it. Also, although i used vinyl dye to even paint the hard plastic parts (the instructions on the vinyl dye said that it could be used on hard plastic if you use a primer first), i don't recommend it. I would just use the vinyl dye on the vinyl itself, and then get normal spray paint for the hard plastic stuff. Normal spray paint is a little thicker and doesn't run as much as the vinyl dye does when its applied to hard plastic. Oh yeah, i think I might buy a red racing steering wheel, cause its gonna be tough to paint the oem steering wheel how i want it. thanx again for all the compliments! I can't wait to show you guys the finished product!

scarlemthug, sorry, missed answering your question. Um, i'd have at least 4 cans of vinyl dye JUST for the vinyl parts. If you decide to use the dye on the hard plastic too, then order more. 4 should do fine though for just the vinyl parts.

scarlemthug
02-09-2003, 04:59 PM
Yeah im just gonna use the dye for the vinyl. Im looking into different types of paints for plastics so that it will look as good as possible. PM me with how you took off your door panels cause im stumped:confused:

Im gonna order the vinyl dye soon so hopefully ill be able to start my interior soon. I think im gonna order the silver vinyl dye but im still not sure yet.

Keep in touch man and let me know how ur interior is coming along.:)

hey, its a fun project i can do for comparatively little money. I've never really had plans to sell my car, at least not any time in the near future. You guys that hate on rice all the time are just as bad as the ricers. The point of hooking up a car is to have fun with it. You guys take all that fun away with your bitching and moaning about big spoilers and flashy lights or in my case, a colored interior. Lighten up and let people enjoy their cars. And type X, is the interior hideous BECAUSE you think its going to flake, or its just hideous because its colored in the first place? not that i care what you haters have to say, but just trying to clarify how much you're hatin.

honestly i am not a fan of red interior
your car is white maybe if it was all white ok
but the red is loud. . IMO

thats the beauty of an INTERNET webboard is that people have different views
for example u might hate my car

but u dont have to drive it . . . i do

but talk whatever shit u want about it. . . i dont cry at night

also i DO respect your views and unlike most kids on sites like this i do respect u not CURSING me out and flaming
so for that i give u a thumbs up :)

Nowadays anyone who drives a civic is pretty much considered a ricer. People mod there acrs the way that they like them and what they like is there personaly preference. Im gonna do my interior the same way that civic98stunna did his except mine is gonna be grey/silver and black. I really am not worried about selling my car because I dont plan on selling it. Im gonna use that thing until ive completely modded it up and it becomes a pure show car or if it breaks down. HAHAHA. People neeed to stop hating on other people and making generalizations about people.

So pretty much both of you are into the whole JDM thing. Thats your taste....some of it is nice and some of it in my eyes looks so stupid and worthless. But you spend your money how you want and let others do what they want.

And if i had my interior completely redone and I had done it myself and my boss needed a ride I would be proud of it because I did it myself and I would like it. If my boss didnt like it well thats good for him. You cant fire someone because you dont like there car.

thanx gscivic7 and scarlemthug for your support. brokenlimits, who cares what my boss thinks? how does that have anything to do with my car? I do what i like to MY car. I don't consider coloring the interior rice anywayz. Look at the outside of my car; no rice there. And about the two color thing. wtf? your example is pathetic. just because a 3 year old can use two colors doesn't mean that any two colored object is stupid. I see two colors in your super-duper turbo SI. Looks like its grey AND red. Guess a three year old designed your interior too. I take what i said back about haters being as bad as ricers. Haters are MUCH worse than ricers. At least ricers can have fun adding stuff to their car. Just cause a car isn't pure Jdm doesn't mean its any less cool, its just less cool to you haters out there. If you'll notice, your one of just a few who have dissed my interior. Everyone else at least congratulates me on my effort, if not saying they like the interior itself. Why do you make such an effort to put other people down? Maybe its to make up for an inadequacy of your own. oh well. I'm happy with my work, and that's all that needs to be said.

sc0rch

lol this is what it sounds like to me......

the JDM thing is the "cool" thing to do so unless it's JDM then your a ricer or a dork or what the fuck ever......and altezzas and washer lights are retarded......

I dont really like the colors together but that just because i'd rather see blue and black or black and lime green but thats just the colors i like.....no matter it still looks good specially for a home done job.....plus i wouldnt wanna clean the white all the damn time :D

but i say if someone wants some clear tails cause thats what they like or they dye there interior cause thats what THEY want then why does everyone always gotta talk shit....cant just say "i dont really like it but good job" nooooooooo gotta give some a rash of shit about something cause you dont like it......

this board seems like a bunch of constipated know it alls if you ask me....

i agree with you scorch. a good fun thread like this turns into a debate about why people have to diss others. "My car is pure jdm, therefore it's better than your car with the colored interior." i'm tired of that shit. the point of hooking up a car is to make it look different than everyone else's. How many cars have colored interiors besides dedicated showcars? and how many of them did it themselve's with rattle cans and patience? not many, as far as i know. I'll have a rare interior in my area, and i'll get lots of compliments, i know that for sure. Its too bad people can't just appreciate individuality on these webboards and congratulate other's on their hard work. too many negative people in this world. I honestly thought when i posted pics of my interior that all i'd get were compliments, if not on the colors themselves, then on the work i put into it. Instead i get haters that think that JDM is the only way to modify a car. Yeah, jdm is cool, and i'm goin for that look on the outside, but on the inside, where i spend my time, i wanna be happy about what i've done with my ride. and the more i color my interior, the happier i am. Fuck all you haters.

the great thing about this JDM trend is that they're all ricers too. You can stick as much JDM stuff you want on your car it's never going to be true JDM unless you import your car straight from japan. And isn't that the definition of rice, trying to front your car as something it really isn't?
