Considering an A6 Avant. Feedback?

Hello Everyone! Am considering an A6 Avant (can't stand SUVs!) and wondered if anyone out there has any feedback on it. I don't know if ordering the premium sound system is worth the extra $$$ or not. Am hearing its competitor, the 2004 BMW 5 Sports Wagon will trail a year behind the sedan/coupe and I don't know if I want to wait and see. Cheers! :alien:

The A6 Avant is a great car. I especially like the beige leather interior with wood and aluminium trim version. Looks are still stunning after a couple of years, and although the 5-series is brand new, and the A6 is from 1997, I'd still take the A6. It's even cheaper.. The Saab 9-5 is a viable alternative as well, more sporty than the A6 and as comfortable and big as well.. Just a matter of choice...

My dad is on his second A6 Avant. Hewas happy with the first one, so he decided to buy a second one, specially after having driven my new generation A4 avant. You could really feel some difference of 4 years between the cars. BUt to be honest with you, he is really not happy about it. He ordered a couple of extras like the special assisted steering, and I will agree with him, its not good at all. In any case Its a good car. I don't know what kind of driving you will do with it, but do consider the Quattro opition. It feels like on rails!
Engine wise, my dad has a 2.5tdi 180hp and I have a 1.9tdi 130hp, yes both diesels, yes, gasoline is 4 times the US price in Europe, so I really cant comment on the gazoline engines.

Audi's diesel engines are supposed to be very good (never driven one, though) so you should check out one of them before deciding on a gasoline one.. They lost longer even. And in some parts of europe, like Norway- the gas is even MORE expensive.. (ONe litre costs $1)

The diesel is not avalible in the USA, at least not yet!!!! Personally I like SUV'S. But the A6 Avant is a nice car, don't over look the Volvo, know someone who has one and loves it.

I considered a number of vehicles before deciding on the A6 Avant. The large Volvo wagon has an awful box for a rear end unlike the small one which is nicer looking but too small for us. The Saab 9-5 looks great but I was put off by only front-wheel drive and 4-cylinder (even with 250 hp). Mercedes is $10 thousand more than the Audi & BMW straight 6 on the wagon is underpowered. We love our Audi - just have 5K on it and it handles like a dream in every condition I tried except it was too early for snow. No diesels here in the USA yet. Cheer! //mjp//
