My friend owns a car lot and he has 2 cars I am interested in. One is a 94 Ford Probe base model with 72k I can get for less than $4k, the other is a 95 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS with 88k i can get for around $6k. My question is if u people think i should go for the lower mileage 118hp probe? or pay the extra and get a better looking 140hp eclipse? i also need to consider insurance costs....any advice is appreciated! thanx!

My choice...the Probe
The only reason I say this is because where I live it is alot cheaper for Ford parts than Mitsubishi. And in my city, there is no Mitsubishi dealer, and the nearest one is an 8hr drive.
Depends how parts are where you live, and dealer support.
Otherwise, if parts prices were the same, I would probably get the eclipse, nicer car imo.

I would have to go against Hummer Man and say go with the Eclipse. Mitsubishi parts may be cheaper... But the Probe will spend alot more time in the shop then the Eclipse will.

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to get into "The Scene", get the eclipse. If you don't particularly care for it, get the Probe. If parts are difficult to get around where you live, almost always go with domestic, as it will be cheaper in the long run. But if that is not the case, get the Eclipse again.:D

No contest : Eclipse. Faster and better looking.

No contest Probe. Tons more reliable. Every person I know that has an eclipse has had tons of problems with it. This one guy I know went to this one mechanic, to have the idle fixed, and he started asking the mechanic what he thought of the ecclipse, and he named 6 problems off the top of his head, and told him to get rid of it now before it got 80,000 miles, because then he is probably going to be getting about 6 new problems. My friend had all 6 of those problems.

Hummerman, so you gotta go to winnepeg to get parts?
I would go with the eclipse, or an older model with a turbo money and be faster:D

Yup. I looked into an eclipse b4 i bought my caprice this summer. We have 0 dealer support here, and so if any major problems came up, id be fucked.
Ive got a friend with a probe and hes had little problems that he couldnt fix on his own, and the local Ford dealer has been fairly helpful.
If I lived somewhere with a dealer, I would probably be driving an eclipse right now instead of my caprice, but overall I am happy with my purchase. :D

I think both Eclipse and Probe will have the same number of problems...but I personally would prefer the Eclipse....faster and looks better

not to hate domestics but if i were u i get the eclipse. believe me if ford promised a 3yr warrenty, that ford should last about 3yrs. And that probe been over due for some yrs now. I'm not saying that you're not gonna encouter problems with the eclipse. I'm just saying that you'll encounter less problems with the eclipse :)
