Bad Paint & Bad Leather...Beware

My black 350Z has a 2" x 3" blemish on the hood. Nissan has authorized the hood to be repainted...but not the entire hood.
I have obtained several opinions from independent auto body shops and they all say the same thing. Do nothing since I have the problem reported and documented with Nisssan.
I am very disappointed. I purchased a new and expensive vehicle and it is defective. Nissan should recall all vehicles due to inferior paint jobs.
Has anyone noticed a problem with the leather seats? The back of the seats are discolored. I think it was done in the detail shop when they applied the leather coat. I am taking the car to the dealer to report the problem.
The vehicle only has 105 miles on it. I never drive it in the rain, and I live in Seattle! I am so disappointed. My husband did not want me to purchase this vehicle from the beginning and now I get this look of I told you so. My first Z was purchased new in 1977, I waited 26 years and purchased the 350Z. What a disappointment.:( :( :( :(
Looking for advice?

ive never heard of or seen the oproblems you describe and I frequent most of the 350z internet forums. Sounds like you just had some bad luck with this one. As for your husband saying 'I told you so'; that's just rediculous and not very nice. These are cosmetic problems that can be easily fixed; your problem sounds like it is with your dealer, not the car.

NISSAN has admitted that the blemish in the paint is a factory defect. Consequently, they are authorizing a repainting of the hood.
The problems with the leather I feel are with the dealer. The detailers did a poor job when applying the leather protectant.
If you are not aware of the paint problems, I suggest you check the posts under the forums. There are several posts, such as:
Nissan changing paint process for Daytona Blues....the color was not the same color on all parts of the car. They are changing the process for future cars and reinspecting the ones that are still at the port.
Bad Paint Jobs...Beware....on the new redline red touring model there were several paint chips on the drivers door. The paint appeared to be "flaking" off from the inside out right down to the metal. The paint job had an excess of "orange peel" which is caused by a bad paint job and is highly noticeable and unattractive especially on a Z. The owner argued with NISSAN for several weeks and they finally agreed to repaint the entire vehicle.
NISSAN really goofed up and put a paint job not suitable for a minivan on the sportscar of the year!!!

I have seen only a few posts like the redline paint peeling, and you are the only one I've seen post that they have a blemish. The large majority of owners are not experiencing that problem, myself included. It's impossible to generalize and assume there is a widespread problem based on a a few posts. Simply because Nissan says it is a factory defect, does NOT mean the condition exists on any other car besides yours. Perhaps you got a bad apple.
There are however many with 'orange peel' which is common these days on most cars regardless of brand. This is due largely to the newly mandated use of EPA safe water based paints.
Regardig the Daytona blue paint jobs. Paint sticks to metal differently than plastic, it is extremely hard to get them to match up color wise because of this. This is the problem on the Daytona's. Sounds like the Daytona blues needed some tweeking. No big deal, again this happens to all brands out there...not a new 'Nissan' problem by any stretch. They are fixing it shortly after discovering the problem, which is admirable.

I am not generalizing or assuming this is a widespread problem. I was simply advising folks to really check out the paint job before accepting delivery. Most importantly, to inspect the vehicle under various lighting conditions.
I have seen this same problem on the Lemans Sunset. The detailer pointed it out to me. I wonder if he brought it to the attention of the buyer? Not likely.

There is a true problem with the paint quality!!
I have had my Z for a year now, it is the redline color.
Everyday there is a new spot where the paint is flaking off revealing an unattractive and VERY evident white spot. The spots are everywhere, from the hood, roof, quarter panels, door etc.
My last car was red, cost much less, had it for 4 years sitting outside in all kinds of weather and had NO paint issues.
I can tell you I am very upset, I have an appointment with the dealer this week but am expecting a run around.
But I suppose it is just like the alignment/tire issue that Nissan denied but now they are sending out warranty cards to all 03' Z owners acknowledging the issue and offering to fix it.
I will report back on what Nissan N.A says and believe me I will be posting on numerous sites as this seems to be the ONLY way problems get resolved.

My dad has a white 350z, no problems with this one. I think its just certain cars not all. If this WAS a really big problem, it would have been all over the place.
