Any reference telling how to change a mirror adjustment knob

Hi,

I have broken the mirror control knob on passenger door, (Volkswagen 200 GLX) I have got the new one, but I don't know how to replace it.
Do I need to take the door cover apart..?
Is there any easier way..?
